Prostitution scandal has Washington in new 'shock and awe'

Sat Apr 28, 5:47 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - ...........

And The Washington Post reported Saturday that local jitters appeared to be multiplying.

It said Sibley claimed that "he has been contacted in the past few days by five lawyers asking whether their clients' phone numbers are on Palfrey's list of 10,000 to 15,000 customers from 2002 to 2006."

That may have something to do with the fact that Palfrey already has named her first name, as it were, on her website, where she has posted a court document from April 12 in which she alleges formal US naval commander Harlan Ullman was a "regular customer" whom she needs to subpoena.

Ullman, with James Wade, developed the military doctrine of "shock and awe" used by the US government in its invasion of
Iraq. According to one definition, it is shorthand for rapid dominance based on the use of "overwhelming decisive force," "dominant maneuvers" and "spectacular displays of power" to subdue the other side.

Earlier this month Ullman told CNN: "The allegations do not dignify a response," and referred any other questions to his lawyer.

1. "The allegations do not dignify a response,"
I think he means, "I will not dignify these allegations with a response." Though, were I in his position right now, I'd get my syntax screwed up too.

13. Ullman spoke out AGAINST BUSH'S USE OF SHOCK AND AWE - it was a military STRATEGY he developed
for JUST WARS, not Iraq.

I am surprised that people here are condemning him.

Many of you couldn't know that because the media never gave voice to the man's opposition to Bush on Iraq.

16. Eh
In January 2003 Ullman was beating the war drums as loudly as anyone:

"We want them to quit. We want them not to fight," says Harlan Ullman, one of the authors of the Shock and Awe concept which relies on large numbers of precision guided weapons.

"So that you have this simultaneous effect, rather like the nuclear weapons at Hiroshima, not taking days or weeks but in minutes," says Ullman.

<>

"You're sitting in Baghdad and all of a sudden you're the general and 30 of your division headquarters have been wiped out. You also take the city down. By that I mean you get rid of their power, water. In 2,3,4,5 days they are physically, emotionally and psychologically exhausted," Ullman tells Martin.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/01/24/eveningnews/main537928.shtml

Four years later, those physically, emotionally and psychologically exhausted Iraqis are putting up a pretty good fight, aren't they Harlan?

Ullman belongs to the "right war, bad prosecution" camp and was a staunch Rummy defender. He deserves what he gets.

17. Ullman acting as analyst is not unlike the way Clark would answer as a media analyst
for military operations in Iraq in the early days of the war. I think, too often, their words get taken out of context when they are providing that aspect of the coverage which is separate from their actual personal views, imo.

5. Somehow , I really do not care about the sexual habits of most people,
Edited on Sat Apr-28-07 11:43 PM by wake.up.america
It's just the hypocrisy that bothers me, trying to come across as being "goody two shoes".

If some guy or lady is sexually abusing someone else, then I am concerned.

If some one gets off on a trampoline and a rubber chicken, that's their thing.

9. Her website:

Interesting read. Though many in the MSM quote her website, none are willing to provide the URL -- often a sign they are quoting...how shall we say... selectively?

She has Ullman's home phone on her phone records (looks like shock and awe turned around and bit him on the ass).

onedit: She is now turning down donations:
"I have come to discover of late that the considerable press and subsequent attention shown me has had an ancillary benefit, in the form of various financial opportunities. Therefore, I now find myself in a position whereby I no longer need to rely upon the kindness of strangers. Again, thank you to those individuals who sympathized with my plight and helped me."

But I'll bet the press is avidly scanning its rolodexes.
