that Edwards wasn't "somewhere else", "tired", "lacking passion" blah blah blah..during the "debate" on Thursday night.

The guy has maybe a cold, but more likely, ALLERGIES. Hoarse voice today, eyes looking like the sort of eyes you have when you're suffering and the antihistamines aren't working very well....

PS--plenty of passion today....."bleeding sore" that is Iraq. Good description.

1. Too simple.
No, as a poster on DU said today, there is something so wrong with the man that he and his $400 haircuts should just quit the race. :eyes:

3. LOL and regarding that haircut. I studied his hair as he spoke today....
Edited on Sun Apr-29-07 12:50 AM by Gloria
(I learned to cut hair at Vidal Sassoon in London). If you notice, it's very thick in the back instead of the usual close to the head cut.
Why? I'm betting he has cowlicks, esp. along the bottom. Notice how it is thick and pretty long along the "hairline." Except it isn't his natural hairline, it is longer and thicker to give weight to the hair so the cowlicks "disappear." He also has a lot of hair near the crown of his head, esp. on one side. Again. Weight, so that a cowlick doesn't spring up.

Now, a lousy haircutter wouldn't cut this hair correctly. Trust me, it's tricky. I don't begrudge him a good haircut, and on demand, that gets pricey. Plus, I've cut hair out of a salon, in homes, on back porches, etc. etc. and it's not easy to a good job away from a real chair.

As for him "preening" over his hair in the video....He may have been battling a bad cut and was really worried about something sticking up in the wrong place!!!

UPDATE: In the crowd now....just saw that top hair wiggling....he definitely has a major cowlick up there!!

17. I also have cowlick issues, all of mine at my neckline
I wear my hair short, and STILL can't find anyone in NC who can cut my hair correctly! To complicate things, I have a widows peak at my back hairline.

I have often thought of traveling back up to Northern Va to get my hair cut, but that would be a once a month trip.

I don't begrudge him a $400 haircut at all. With the travel time the hairdresser has to make, he has to be compensated for his time. If he has managed to find someone who knows how to cut hair down here, I would love to have their name.

If you lived down here, you would understand. When I call a new place for a haircut, I asked where they have been trained. If they were trained in another area, I might try them.

I have also had some of the worst perms in my life here.

2. I don't agree ...

I have been a fierce Edwards supporter, have donated money and time to his campaign, and I was sorely disappointed in his performance at the "debate."

As far as allergies are concerned, I have horrible allergies and have basically been sick for a month because of them. I still have to perform and do my job. If allergies prevent him from doing so, then he needs to do something else. That's called "the real world" that all us peons have to inhabit. I have appreciated his populist message, have no concerns about his haircut at all, but if he can't pull himself up and work when he has to, then I feel I need to look somewhere else.

4. I thought he did very well in the debate, regardless. I don't buy the punditry at all.
Edited on Sun Apr-29-07 12:23 AM by Gloria
He spoke well and appropriately for the situation. It wasn't a rally. No need to be screamed at. I thought he was calm. The pundits can call it negatively, but I didn't react at all that way.

6. Okay ...

But the punditry has nothing to do with my opinion.

I sat through the whole thing, and I watched him stumble across numerous questions, and that's not something a candidate can do.

If you thought he did well, I must admit I'm not clear what the purpose of this thread even is, since you seem to be offering an excuse for him not doing well.

7. Seeing him today, very hoarse, and seeing his eyes closer up, it just
reminded me of some slight telltale signs that I couldn't pinpoint on Thursday, that's all. Esp. the eyes.

15. I also thought he did the best of the candidates
Brian Williams was horrible.

19. When Bill Clinton's allergies flared, he could barely talk. Nobody attacked him in 92
for his inability to 'perform' then.

10. "Pundits" include many at DU who commented on his seeming tired...
He may well have been but I don't consider that an excuse for his performance, because I think he performed fine. His discussion of how we have to use tools other than bombs to try to prevent another generation of terrorists from being created was excellent...forward looking and broadly touching on the way our foreign policy should be changed....in the manner of....Wes Clark, no?

8. I wonder how long the attacks here will continue with ganging up?
I guess we will just have to find out.

9. Hillary had bags under her eyes, and Obama was nervous.
Richardson was sweating.

I bet if I tried I could come up with more nasty stuff.

11. As I answered to you in my thread
I'm actually curious about how the media has reacted after the debate, in which my candidate didn't do that well, by the way.

I like Edwards, by the way. In fact, a little secret for you: I have donated money to his campaign as well. So, I'm personally asking out of curiosity.

12. I think Edwards did very well in the debate and today too!
I actually laughed to myself when I heard his horse voice. He really must be running that campaign trail hard!

For the idiots who gripe about his haircut, he apparently has one person do it, and he paid for that person to fly to where he was. Transportation costs aren't cheap! So what? So he looks good! Hell, most of the pubs only wish they had hair!

In the last few weeks Edwards has become my candidate of choice.

someone to come to YOU, it's costs $$$$! I'm still having a problem understanding why this is a big issue!
