ABC’s Ross: DC Madam’s List Includes White House & Pentagon Officials, Prominent Lawyers

ABC News’ Brian Ross revealed tonight that the list of customers of an alleged Washington-based prostitution service includes White House and Pentagon officials as well as prominent attorneys.

“There are thousands of names, tens of thousands of phone numbers,” Ross said. “And there are people there at the Pentagon, lobbyists, others at the White House, prominent lawyers — a long, long list.” Ross added that the women who worked for the service, potentially as prostitutes, “include university professors, legal secretaries, scientists, military officers.”

On Friday, Ross broke the news that U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Randall Tobias had frequented the escort service. Ross added new details to that story tonight, recounting how he asked Tobias in a telephone interview “if he knew any of the young women, their names. He said he didn’t remember them at all. He said it was like ordering pizza.” Under President Bush, Tobias oversaw a program helping men in poor countries “develop healthy relationships with women.”

UPDATE: The Washington Post carries a front-page profile of the DC Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, in Sunday’s paper. Palfrey will be interviewed exclusively on ABC’s 20/20 on May 4.

Transcript:

ABC: Brian, I know you were the only reporter to talk to Tobias late this week before his resignation. What did you learn from him?

ROSS: Well, David, I talked to him one day before he resigned and told him that we had found his name and personal phone number on a list of clients of the so-called DC Madam’s escort service in Washington. And what he told me was that he in fact had been a customer of the service, but that he had not had sex. He had had what he called gals come over to his condo to give him a massage. He claimed there was no sex but that he was stunned by the fact that we were aware he was a client and that was his conversation. I asked him if he knew any of the young women, their names. He said he didn’t remember them at all. He said it was like ordering pizza.

ABC: You know, we understand his name is just one of many connected to the case of the DC Madam, as you mentioned. Why does she want the names to be made public?

ROSS: Well, she has been charged by federal prosecutors with running a prostitution service. She says it wasn’t prostitution, it was fantasy sex, legal sex, and she wants to call all of her prominent clients to testify. One, she says, it’s hypocritical of the government to go after her and the women who worked for her. And two, she wants them to testify as to whether there was or was not sex. And she’s intent on doing this. She’s turned down an opportunity to take a four-month prison sentence, plea out the arrangement. She wants to go to trial.

ABC: And Brian, I presume there are others on this list who will turn heads?

ROSS: There are thousands of names, tens of thousands of phone numbers, and there are people there at the Pentagon, lobbyists, others at the White House, prominent lawyers — a long, long list, and as well, the women who work for the service, David, include university professors, legal secretaries, scientists, military officers.

1. As much time as I've spent in DC, it pisses me off that I wasn't on the list.
I've experienced so much of what DC has to offer...

I could always tell the difference
Who does this guy think he is kidding?

1/2 dressed women come to your house or you go to a "day spa"
and they rub rub you down and sex is not part of the deal.

Too many e.z. jokes here ..... "Double Stuffed ..."

"Guaranteed hot on delivery." "Tired of home cooking" "You will eat the whole thing"

10. This must have been the inspiration for the West Wing episodes
with the very high priced "call girl" who was a law student working her way through school. Interesting....

13. Let's play, find the high ranking Dem on the list of dozens of Republicans
and throw him to the wolves. Mark it. Eventually the list will come out and some poor Dem will become the target of the prosecution and the "liberal" MSM. Dick Cheney himself could be on the list and he will (naturally) get a pass in favor of some Dem so we get reminders from out betters that Dems are amoral. :eyes:

14. All I keep thinking is that
the "madam" better have backup documents spread out across the country of all those clients. Maybe I've been watching TV too long, but people have been killed for less than a "who's who" list of DC sex shoppers. I wouldn't be surprised if the list somehow "disappears" in the near future before any more names are revealed, or that the "madam" gets a sweet deal.

I don't think now, nor have I ever, that those who work in this arena of the sex trade should be charged with anything or that it should even be illegal. Prostitution at this level is not preying on anyone--with adults walking in with their eyes wide open it's one thing, but our puritan values still think of it as prurient.

15. It appears that she kept detailed records.
And that the ABC reporters may have taken a peek at some names on that list.

It continues to amaze me that with all the murder, mayhem, and war crimes that go on, the one thing that can take out a politician is a sex scandal.

We'll need to keep an eye on the London papers too.

Some of the best secrets are published in the UK, but not in the US MSM.

20. Interesting defense.
She gets client after client to go up and state they didn't have sex.
Pretty good defense there.

It's ashame that we won't see this.

Charges will soon be dropped and she will have a rich income for life in a few days.

Boy I wish one of these things would really hit the fan the way it should.

But they never do.

Also on Palfrey's list of customers who could be potential witnesses are a Bush administration economist, the head of a conservative think tank, a prominent CEO, several lobbyists and a handful of military officials.

26. More circuses to distract the masses.
Does anyone else think that this prosecution was launched with full knowledge that it would result in a media circus?

What better way to distract the masses from the weighty issues of War and Peace, and impeachment!
