At a dinner honoring Pelosi Saturday evening, pro-impeachment activists slipped elegant placecards onto each place at the table. The cards read:

Remember, We’re the Deciders.

Impeachment is on the table.

Investigate and Impeach Cheney and Bush!

We have indeed made considerable and significant progress on this issue. It was only a few months ago that the very idea of IMPEACHMENT was just simply a taboo. Not done. Not spoken about. One dared not even entertain the thought, much less bring it up in the open, in polite company.

Now, it's erupting - EVERYWHERE. I don't know how much longer Nancy will be able to hold back the floodgates.

Part of impeachment is not so much the laws of the land, but a popularity contest. When the republics tried it, Clinton was at something like a 60% approval rating. He then picked up seats in the midterms of 1996. I think it needs three things, media, congress and public support. Newt and the boys did not have public support or the Senate support. He did help create a media storm and that was the least of the 3 parts. He basically had a weak case for impeachment at best.

I'm not wholly convinced of the tactical worth of impeachment proceedings, but this is a subtle, inventive, and memorable way to help make the case. These folks deserve as much credit as they can get.
