Why wasn’t Romney Excommunicated?

Romney now has said he has ‘changed’ his views but when he was running for Governor his view seemed to run very counter to ‘Mormonism’ so why wasn’t he kicked out?

Oh wait a minute he has money…sorry money trumps faith much like fundamentalists everywhere.

1. I don't know if Mormons use excommunication
maybe against polygamists, don't know if they even call it excommunication. And while the Mormons do tend to vote heavily Republican, there are Democratic Mormons like Harry Reid and about a hundred Udalls.

4. I don't think they excommunicate for that.
I think they excommunicate if you talk against the leaders and the church itself.

5. Yep, I think you're right--I don't think it works the same way as Catholicism.

6. Mormons don't excommunicate over public issues
and neither do Catholics anymore. A Mormon who is gay can end up excommunicated but not one who advocates for gay rights.

9. Not true
Mormons excommunicated Sonia Johnson over her public support of the Equal Rights Amendment. She was the 1984 presidential nominee of the Citizens Party.

7. As far as I know they will excommunicate a member for 3 reasons...
apostasy, murder or adultery. The polyg's are considered apostates.
