85% percent turnout in the French election.
Edited on Mon May-07-07 08:10 PM by calteacherguy
This interesting tidbit was just announced on NBC news. "They voted on a Sunday. If we voted on a Sunday in November the number of men voting might be rather minimal."

Well, probably so, but what day of the week shoudl be vote on? Why do we have to vote on Tuesday? Should we have a voting holiday? I think the Democratic Congress should champion a national voting holiday. I think Bush vetoing such a bill would be political suicide for the Republican Party.

Discuss...

Edit: They also mentioned that the French vote for politicians who have mistresses because if they didn't have a mistress they would not be perceived as having "power." Interesting cultural dichotomy between the U.S. and France.

1. Absolutely. This "Tuesday Voting" is total bullshit. If voting were...
..on Sunday or on a "National Voting Holiday" I suspect the turnout would be far greater than now...

But then the Repugs would be in deep shit...and we can't have that.

3. Bill Maher commented on this.
He said that you couldn't get 85% of Americans off the couch to vote if the choice was between tits and bigger tits and they were handing out free samples.

6. I think it should be a national holiday
I live in Korea and the day of the vote is always a national holiday and Korea has a very high turnout.
