FRANKFORT, Ky. -- A former state employee who claimed he was
fired for supporting Republican Gov. Ernie Fletcher's 2003 campaign
rival can have his job back, the state personnel board said Friday.
Mike Duncan, a former deputy inspector general of the Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet, must be reinstated to the same or a similar
position, the board said.
"They terminated him because of politics," said Duncan's attorney,
Paul Fauri. "It's clear, plain and simple."
Duncan's 2005 firing was part of an investigation by a special grand
jury that looked into the personnel practices of the Fletcher
administration. Duncan's name was on a "hit list" of state workers
that included information about their political affiliation and
campaign contributions.
