Dear Mrs. :
Thank you for contacting me with your views on our U.S. military involvement in Iraq.
Against the advice of his military experts and the Iraq Study Group, the President sent troops into battle without the necessary body armor, without a plan for reconstruction, and without an exit strategy. President Bush's surge has pushed the sectarian violence and killing from Baghdad and the Anbar province outward, increasing violence throughout the country. Now he is asking Congress to sit idly by as the situation on the ground continues to spiral out of control. Congress has a constitutionally sanctioned role in American foreign policy and must exercise it.
I fully support the military serving in Iraq and I will continue to support them in every way. A bipartisan congress sent the President a supplemental defense bill that fully funds our troops and our veterans, while setting a deadline for bringing our troops home. The President responded by vetoing this bill after instituting a 3 month troop tour extension that strains our troops, their families and our recruitment efforts.
I voted against the Iraq invasion and am deeply disturbed by the crisis it has precipitated. The Iraqi civil war endangers our troops and requires a political solution. I support the will of the American people and efforts to bring our troops home as soon as possible.
Thank you again for sharing your views with me.
Sincerely, Sherrod Brown

We need to kick his ass the hell out of the U.S. Senate. However, without Kitz or Earl B. or Peter D., it's not so easy ...

We can't do much but I think it's important that as many of us as possible let our congress critters know how we feel about their votes.
While Hillary has been on my shit list for a long time I wrote her and expressed appreciation for doing the right thing.
I wrote to Gillibrand and said how disappointed I was,
and to Schumer to say, Where the hell were you?!
with each email I quoted Kerry and Olberman.
Kerry:
I'm voting no on this bill. I'm tired of the false choices of Republicans and all the recycled spin of old battles and the political calculations that do nothing for our troops who bear the real costs of this war. Bottom line: we support the troops by getting the policy right, and this bill doesn't do that. I've said it again and again and I'm not about to stop: we need a deadline to force Iraqis to stand up for Iraq and bring our heroes home, not watered down benchmarks and blank check waivers for this President.
Olberman:
The Democratic leadership has, in sum, claimed a compromise with the Administration, in which the only things truly compromised are the trust of the voters, the ethics of the Democrats, and the lives of our brave, and doomed, friends, and family, in Iraq.
You, the men and women elected with the simplest of directions - Stop The War - have traded your strength, your bargaining position, and the uniform support of those who elected you… for a handful of magic beans.

rather than their opposition to the war per se.

How can Byrd, who I thought was against this god damn war, vote for this? Nice job of lack of leadership by worthless Harry Reid by voting yes and a real shock that my Senator Schumer was too gutless to vote at all. How the hell can these Democrats, who voted yes, look themselves in the mirror? :grr:
