I think Bloomberg will run for NYS Governor in 2010
I don't live in NY anymore, but I'm hearing that Spitzer isn't doing a very good job. Can someone fill me in?

If Bloomberg isn't on any presidential tickets in 2008, I think he will run for Governor in 2010. Unless, Hillary wins the presidency, he could run for Senator to replace her. Granted, the governorship isn't as flashy as mayor of NYC, but it would position him well for a future presidential election, that is if he can wait that long.

I think he'll stay out of the 2008 election, but he's a real wild card.

1. I'm curious
as to what was supposed to happen after just 4 months in office? I don't live in NY either but my son does and I haven't heard anything about his former boss doing a bad job.

Government is a huge bureaucracy and it's wheels turn frustratingly slow. Might take more than 4 months to fix the years of Republican rule.

4. Seems like he's not getting along with the upstate legislature and GOP
people. I'm a native upstater, Albany always seems dysfunctional.

2. Don't believe everything you hear
Spitzer has pissed a lot of people off with his budget cuts for health care, but that's far cry from "isn't doing a very good job".

Not that I would be surprised to see Bloomberg run for Guv.

5. Gov won't be as flashy for Bloomberg, but it would provide a strong
stepping stone if he wants to run for President later in life. Bloomberg would be a more exciting presidential candidate than Pataki - that guy was lucky to be governor.

Do you know if Schumer wants to be governor? It seems that Spitzer was worried that Schumer would run in 2006.

6. I think he's 65, so if he wants a new career, he better get started--
tht's why I think he's looking at a prez run now.

8. I think he would jump at VP if someone offered it to him
He could run in 2012 but his age is a factor, still I think his wealth makes him less beholden to special interests in theory.

If Hillary wins the prez, he's a sure-thing for Senator, but hopefully he'll switch back to the good side.

9. I don't know about VP--he seems driven more by
his personal philosophies (like his gun-control quest, and his "green" NYC taxi program) than by party or ideology, and gravitates toward those who are of like mind, like Al Gore and Chuck Hagel. I doubt he'd be part of a ticket with which he has large philosophical differences, and I don't see him taking the number two spot just for his money or to help bring New Yorkers or gun control advocates to a ticket, and nothing else. I agree on the special interests--can't buy him, at the very least!

10. Schumer for Guv?
I never heard that or thought about it but it does make some sense. Schumer is a pretty ambitious man, so I never thought about his leaving the Senate, as it is a pretty powerful position. However, a gov doesn't have to share power with 99 other senators; they get to run the whole state themselves. And, historically speaking, it's easier to run for president as a governor than a senator

3. I thought he wanted to be president
With his money he probably will be one day, unless the election system is made over.

7. not in 2008, but maybe later
its too late for him in 2008, maybe as someone's VP - it'd be cool for him to switch back to the Dem party and run as VP, he'd buy us the election!

He's got a better chance at Prez than Rudy IMO.
