Link: Letters from the Libby Sentencing ~~ both Pro and Con ~~ organized alphabetically |
|
This is found in a box on the right side of an article about Libby's sentencing, but thouhght it worth a shout-out to my fellow DUers because it looks like all the letters might be there. I have seen some of the "pro" Scooter ones (gag me) and am going to check out who may have sent the judge a different point of view. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/05/AR2007060501275.html

That first one in the first group, IMO, is a winner! Glad the judge ordered them all released!

13. Pace should be demoted or worse. He's ACTIVE military. |
|
Did the SOB PERSONALLY thank Scooter for the unnecessary DEATHS of our troops? Grrrrr...
Doesn't he have an obligation to defend and protect our TROOPS? How the hell is he doing that by supporting a member of this administration that has committed TREASON? Our military is broken. Our troops are on 3rd and 4th deployments. Libby lied to cover up the lies that placed us in the Middle East to begin with. I want Pace's head on a stake. Does this make sense to you? It certainly doesn't make sense to me.
Plame (Brewster-Jennings) had her assignment. Because of these war criminals, we don't have any "intel" on the ground over there. It's beyond OUTRAGEOUS. Pace needs to go.
Am I way off base here?

I had just started a thread in which I wondered whether the 'con' letters had been isolated yet. As I said in it, I'm in no mood to read a bunch of syrupy prose begging for leniency in Scoots' sentencing before getting to the 'good stuff.'

...maybe we can vote this up to the greatest page so everyone can check it out?
What I have noticed is that the "pro" letters seem to come from a lot of big wigs and the "con" letters seem to come from us little guys. Guess the judge thinks like us little guys! What a welcome thought!
I love some of the hand written letters from us little guys! **smile**

17. HA! A dentist and a flight attendent writing for him. |
|
This also is priceless: Based on my daily observation of Scooter over a three year period and my contacts with him over the years since then, I am sure that he is a person of the utmost integrity and honesty. It is my opinion that Scooter Libby is not someone who would commit any kind of crime, particularly the crimes of which he has been convicted. (Written by a lawyer no less)
There's one that numbers qualities such as patriot, scholar, etc. But they say, Scooter is a patriot. Scooter is a scholar. Rather shoots down the intention. Scooter. Pfew.
Victoria Toensing:
Our interest in this case developed solely as a professional matter. We had met Scooter only once, and briefly, prior to this investigation. So our knowledge of him was limited to his superb professional reputation. Yet, as the investigation continued and we wrote and commented on the legal issues, we met not only Scooter and Harriet, but also their numerous supportive friends. One incident stood out to us that we want to share with the Court. On a particularly rough trial day, Victoria approached Scooter at a break and invited him and Harriet to come over for dinner as a social break from the pressure. One could tell by looking at Scooter's expression that he would have loved to do so. Yet, he immediately replied, "No, Harriet and I need to be with the kids. It's important we spend time with them now." We were so touched that in the midst ofhis ordeal, his priority was his family. This priority reflects a man of deep commitment to those dependent upon him and to a set of values worthy of recognition by the Court. We respectfully urge the Court to impose a sentence of probation on this honorable and caring man whose history of valued public service is equally worthy of consideration. Thank you.

5. wow, just skimming the first pdf, everyone supporting libby is in a position to be pressured |
|
to do so in order to keep their jobs, one of the more hilarious is the flight attendant on Cheney's jet.
on the other hand, the ones asking for harsher sentences are wonderful salt of the earth citizens.
I'm glad he listened to the latter.

7. That's the feeling I got, too.... |
|
...that some people were pressured into writing to the court and giving pro views of Libby. Glad someone else picked up on this...thought it was just me.

I am reading, still, on these letters...and IMO, what a bunch of stuffy, unreal people who Scooter has as pals and supporters. So many on atty letterhead ~~ like done to impress a federal judge ~~ and about what a great guy he was to work with. One or two personal ones, but most are the big wig stuff.
I know that as an atty if I were writing to a judge on a sentencing issue for a friend, the LAST thing I would do is use my letterhead...and I would make it PERSONAL and not so freaking political or work related. Like because of their positions, their views on Scooter carried some extra weight. Frankly, I think that hurt and did not help...but no tear in my eye over that!

I wonder how many of the people writing to support Libby will be visiting him in prison? Cheney hasn't even taken the time to talk to him since he was indited.

I'm reading the National Review "pardon him" article.
Are people seriously this stupid, or is just politics?
"Convicted of lying about a crime that the prosecutor can't even prove was committed,"
Doesn't the fact that they couldn't prove the crime show how damaging his purjury and obstruction were?

14. I have now read all the letters... |
|
...well, I skimmed a few of the pro ones cuz the all sounded the same. It looks to me like the Pro-Scooter people had a forumla for writing the shit they did:
1. Use important looking letterhead.
2. Mention a ton of degrees and all of your public service first cuz that puts you a cut above everyone....and then mention what a fucking big wig you are now.
3. Compare Scooter to some saint and that he was just the nicest, bestest, smartest, most honorable guy around ... EVER.
4. Never mention the harm he did to Valerie Plame, Brewster Jennings, national security, etc., but just kind of skate around that he was convicted ... and how shocked you are cuz the Scooter you know just aint like that...NO WAY!
5. Ask the judge basically to give him a freaking medal cuz he has suffered enough...his poor wife and children...and to do this instead of sending him to jail!
Gads, what a bunch of gagger letters....coming from corporate America and the freaking law firms that rep them.

19. Gag! One, from Ado Machida, states "I do not know if you will recall, but I had the distinct |
|
pleasure of sitting with you and your lovely wife at the 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Performance for the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise, Bob Woodson's group ("CNE")."
The Scooter attorneys pulled out all the stops!
Is there anyone left in DC with one shred of decency?
