Being Conservative Means never having to say you're sorry
Edited on Mon Jun-11-07 07:19 AM by BOSSHOG
Excellent column in the Dallas News perfectly describing conservatism in America today. Just another legacy from the leader of the party of integrity and PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

Hey we will hold Bill Clinton responsible even for stuff he didn't do but by gawd don't even think of holding anyone in bush's administration responsible for anything. Lets just give em medals.

edited for typo.

1. Mixed reviews
He's right about how disgracefully many Republicans have behaved since 2000. However, he's wrong that conservatives ever had any more (or less) sense of personal honor and accountability than did progressives. It is a personal issue, not a political one. Anecdotes, such as his silly stab at Bill Clinton, aren't evidence.

2. It is almost a cliche
that in the good old days, conservatives were really great citizens, alone maintaining the integrity and honor of being an American. Just another falsehood.

3. excellent, despite the cheap shots at Clinton
I've noticed this trend a lot with some of the local board trolls I deal with - they always have an excuse for not being responsible for their own actions and how the administration is not responsible for their own actions. Always.

What's funny is, you can almost always trip them up with their own "logic," even though they somehow manage to not get it when you do. Like the guy who claims that Muslims want to kill us all and hate our freedoms and that those are inherent in their religion. I then ask him how he supposes we deal with that; should we kill them all since there is no other solution? He doesn't seem to understand my point, however.

He also fails to understand my point when I discuss the policy reasons some of them do hate us, that our country's actions in the middle east over the past 50 (or more) years has resulted in blowback of monstrous proportions.

It's pretty sad. I marvel at the mental disconnect it must take to rant and rave about how welfare is bad and how people (brown poor people of course) need to be responsible for themselves and own up to their own "mistakes." Yet meanwhile he reacts to any mention that perhaps America's policies abroad are helping to create the very problem we are trying to fix as me blaming Bush for everything.

:sigh:

I can only hope that more and more average Americans wake up from this nightmare of propaganda and distortion. The optimist in me says we will, that as a nation we tend to only put up with BS for so long.

5. Well, it's the DMN
And I can tell you, he needed to get that cheap shot in at Clinton, or the majority of the readers would have written in about "liberal bias."

It's still remarkable that this made it in the DMN in the first place. Maybe remarking on Clinton got the article published.

7. Yep. To quote a great American, if they step on your foot, they blame YOU
for putting your foot there.

8. Because you're not; fuck other people
No big surprise here: selfishness and greed precludes care for any others.

Sorry? What a silly concept.
