Stolen Bush Watch Story here, in world news article
Edited on Tue Jun-12-07 08:28 PM by MissWaverly
Now you see it, now you don't

The Times
It is standard tourist advice: keep an eye on your belongings - even if you are President of the United States. Film of President Bush being mobbed during his visit to Albania on Sunday clearly shows the leader of the free world plunging into an adoring crowd with his watch on, and emerging seconds later with his personalised Timex Indiglo missing. In what looks like one of the most audacious daylight robberies in history, a hand in the crowd can clearly be seen gripping Mr Bush just below the elbow, before it starts running down his forearm and towards the watch. A moment later, Mr Bush pulls a bare-wristed arm from the throng to greet...

it has to be written in stone before they print anything.

2. CNN
Reported that there was a press conference on the matter. THey said that the watch was in Mr Bush's pocket. Does that even make sense, well if you want to believe it you will. They also said the crowd was cheering for the president because he helped 'free albania'. From who the Ottomans?

4. I posted a series of photos about this on another thread
Bush was closely mobbed by people, it was unlike here where no one gets within eye contact unless they are a true believer,
in the sequence it was clear that he had no time to pull back from the crowd around him, some were actually gripping his arms.

The media is clamoring over a $50 Timex watch and ignoring the theft of the century.

Our civil liberties and the whole meaning of the Constitution.

10. well, I think this says two things to me
one, the security around Bush could not have been that great when he was "mugged"
two, that Bush who really enjoys ripping us off, has now been ripped off himself, it's a small thing compared
to an election or two, but I can see that he was really pissed.

8. This could only happen to Bush.
Pressing crowds are such a novelty to him that he was not prepared.

Ordinary travelers know to watch their possessions when jostled.

I hope it wasn't a gift from his wife or kids. Ouch. That hurts. Even Bush does not deserve to lose his watch or have it stolen.

12. People get robbed every day and no one gives a
shit. My neighbor had $2000 worth of stuff stolen from his house in a broad daylight robbery, and he could barely get the police interested enough to come out and take a report. And we're supposed to care that the chimp may have had his watch lifted?

I'd have the same advice for him that I had for my clients back in my travel agent days: Stay away from crowds where pickpockets and thieves may be working. If you lose something, don't say you weren't warned.

22. it's a shame, that this is such a routine thing
I remember growing up when people didn't even lock their doors. Now we live every day with more and more precautions. When
something happens often crime does pay. Whether it is petty thefts or even stealing elections. There is not enough accountability and little remorse.

a security system because it was obvious that the only person interested in protecting my belongings was me. And you're right. In many cases, crime does pay. I don't see Bush and Cheney sitting in adjacent cells, and they are two of the biggest criminals out there. Instead, the public wants to make sure Paris Hilton doesn't get away with anything.

I don't expect die-hard Republicans to become "liberal" but I do expect them to defend the constitution and uphold the rule of
law and get elected to office without cheating, lying and stealing votes.

27. Ah, but which video did you see
there were 2, one where the watch was stolen and one where he took it off and put it in his pocket.

The one where his watch was stolen was shown on Albanian Tv which reported his watch was stolen.
In that video, he is wearing a light blue shirt and he is on a grassy slope and there is a small
tree close to him, he is shaking hands of a crowd of people wearing black suits and white shirts,
there are no Albanian soldiers close to Bush.

In the video where he pockets the watch, he is wearing a white shirt, he is standing on a completely
level field, there are Albanian soldiers around him, they are wearing olive green uniforms, green military
caps with red stars, and there are no trees in the picture at all.

You be the judge, sounds like another Bush story with 2 versions.

28. I saw the video
that Colbert showed, trying to claim he was robbed. There was definitely a time where he brought his left arm down, did SOMETHING, and then turned to his right apparently handing something to an SS aid.

Are you honestly suggesting that the government faked a video of this?

at their fingertips but do I trust them to be 100% honest, let's see. They never revealed the name of Valerie Plame, they just
said the wife of Joseph Wilson. HMMMN, totally honest, HMMMMM!

32. I don't think it would bring down his presidency
but they could probably do a sort and come up with any topic, Bush taking off jacket, Bush hugged by middle-aged lady, Bush
stumbles, Bush gives v sign to crowd.

Why would they counter the story, Well, Bush is down in the polls, Albania trip was an attempt to shore up flagging support
for immigration bill, does not want to be seen as a "bumbler." There are a million reasons but I would rather have a president
that accepts the constraints of reality and his mistakes and moves on to the real issues. Look at how they reacted to one
critical op ed by Joseph Wilson. They are obsessed with image, but the focus should be on America and its problems. FDR
read the newspapers every week across the country to figure out if an average typist could afford to buy groceries on her
salary. It's all a matter of where your perspective is.

35. I saw 2 different videos
one on a level field, one on a slope, the one on a slope, he is mobbed by people, his arm is extended the entire time, you cannot
take your watch off while you are shaking 50 hands. Did both events happen, probably. If you don't believe my description of a
2nd video, that's your option. But since his watch is personalized, then I expect it to come up for sale.

now if both videos were similar I would say that maybe just maybe the tape was doctored and that one could not honestly tell.
But since both are so different and that this story was reported in Europe and was reported as fact on Albanian Tv, then
you can make your own observations. The story that I posted is a "sourced" news story from an actual paper, it's not something
I made up in my basement.

I am posting the link again so that you can respond directly to the newspaper with your many concerns about the accuracy of
their story.
