Who Would You Rather Have? Edwards as AG, or Clark as SecState? |
|
Let's make a gi-normous series of assumptions for a moment and say either Clark or Edwards will be Kerry's VP, and the other would either be SecState or AG.
Who would you rather have in what position, and why?
I think I'd rather have Edwards as AG, because Clark could be the equivalent of an acting SecState as VP (with his old friend Richard Holbrooke as actual SecState...what a team they would make).

3. George Mitchell as SecState |

I think that would be ideal.
I'm not sure where Edwards should be used...VP maybe or AG.
Assuming a Kerry Administration of course. :)

but now that it looks like Kerry is going to pull it out, I think Edwards is probably the better VP pick. Clark as VP would be redundant to Kerry in terms of security, foreign policy, war record, etc. Young Johnny Edwards is a better campaigner and can hit the ground running. He'll pull his weight and then some. Young Johnny will then have eight years to "mature" :eyes: in the role of VP so he's also a good pick looking ahead to 2012.

18. Sorry Spooky (I'm still a little messed up from Clark quitting)... |

but I often wonder why Edwards at fifty doesn't let a little gray show through. He would still have that Breck look he likes but it would be an older look too. :D

6. Bill Clinton would make the best Sec. of State |
|
VP for Edwards; defense for Clark or UN ambassador. Elliot Spitzer for AG (although he is needed for Gov of NY)Carol M. Braun for alternate UN ambassador.

12. Evan Bayh (Indiana) for VP |
|
The VP should be a strategic choice this time around. Evan Bayh is very popular in Indiana and could help the Dems snatch Indiana. He could help elsewhere also, might even help in Kentucky and Ohio. I have no problem with Edwards as AG and Clinton as Sec. of State would be dynamite (though I wonder if he would accept).

Edwards as AG Clark as Homeland Security (assuming it is still there) Holden or Sebelius(MO-KS Gov) as Veep Kucinich as HHS Dean as interior CMB as state Lieberman as commerce Gep as Labor Max Baucus at DOT
But that is predicated on big coattails for Kerry. As we would need a slam in the Senate... stay tuned for more exciting sleaze from the Intel Committee scandal.

Clark as VP Edwards as AG Gephardt as Labor Clinton as Sect. of State Dean as Sect. of Healthcare/Surgeon General
I, um, have to sheepishly admit that I'm not too educated on the fortays of Braun, Kucinich and Sharpton.
If Clark isn't VP, than he HAS to be:
Sect. of State/Defense/Homeland security
or I'll throw a fit:cry:!!! In frustration and confusion I'll cry out, "Why, oh why God don't they see it, WWHHYYY?!?!?!!!

is that so many of the good cabinet picks we both are considering are members of the Senate.
In fact, I prefer think that we need every Dem senator (really Dem, that is) we can get in the Senate and we need to really elect more Reps as well.

|
That way you have both on the team. Plus Clark as VP would make the diplomatic team twice as powerful. It's the best chioce, I just hope Kerry sees that..

11. I'd rather have Clark as VP, Edwards as AG |
|
There are many valuable candidates and well versed ones for Secretary of State. I'd personally rather see Clark in the second slot. Edwards would make an excellent AG and his priorities would be in the right place concerning what an AG really SHOULD be pursuing. I don't know that he would accept it though as a stepping stone to future presidential runs.

17. Please no retired generals in charge of diplomacy... |
|
I say that with no disrespect for Clark. I appreciate that he has international experience.
But as a nation the US has shifted both its domestic and international policies WAY TOO FAR into militarism.
I prefer a civilian so as to reassure the nation and the world that the US government has abandoned the dictatorship of the hyperpower.
Of course that is premised on getting a president that doesn't believe in using American military might as the foundation of dictatorship...I am worried that might be impossible.

24. A common charge against Clark |
|
See I disagree, I think the best person to have in charge of a military is someone who IS a casualty of war, someone who spent years fighting for better health care and education for American troops in charge of the army.
A civilian wouldn't be as qualified to make the call between "Last Resort" and "Our easiest/cheapest option"
Clark showed that he WILL use force if the circumstance requires. Kosovo is an example, he knew that situation was dependent on an uncompromising dictator and thus required force. Yet he went through NATO and the UN to do it.
Your claim that a civilian in charge of the army would look better to the world, is in my opinion made moot by Bush. He's as "civilian" as they come, and he's seen by the world as a military bully, even though he has no military experience.
I think Clark would be great as diplomat because he met so many world leaders as NATO Supreme Allied Commander. Plus he was endorsed by over 50 ambassadors.
Believe what you want, but please don't dismiss Clark as a warmonger just because he was a General. He's not Stalin, he's not Napoleon, he's not Hitler. He's just a boy from Arkansas who answered his country's call to duty.

should be Secretary of State. Either Edwards or RFK, Jr., would make a great attorney general. By the way, when Chief Justice comes up, Johnny Cochran would be great.

29. Clark is a much better VP choice than Edwards |
|
1. If Edwards is the VP, it does nothing to help counter the attacks that Kerry is weak on defense (for voting against funding for critical military equipment etc.) With Clark as VP I believe national defense will remain an issue. However, the advantage will go to the Democrats who will not just go toe to toe with Bush on national defense they will crush him.
2. If Edwards is the VP, the Republicans will continuously make an issue of Kerry's health and how Edwards would be unqualified to serve as commander-in-chief and to run the country if Kerry became ill and had to step down. (The fact that Edwards was a personal injury attorney for a majority of his life will be constantly repeated by the Republicans and media). This line of attack could not be effectively used against Clark.
3. If Edwards is the VP, the Republicans will try to expose Edwards as a phony populace. This line of attack cannot be used against Clark.
4. If Edwards is VP, it will be the insiders vs. the insiders. It is much better to have a REAL outsider on the ticket.
