PDA: Jamie Eldridge for Congress from the 5th Congressional District Ma special election this Sept.

From PDA today.

July 2007

Dear Friend,

Like you, I believe we need people in politics today who will stand up for core progressive principles. That is why I am proud to be part of Progressive Democrats of America. I hope you will join me.

Founded in 2004 after the Democratic National Convention, PDA continues to provide leadership when it counts.

* When reports emerged within days after the November 2004 presidential election of voting irregularities in Ohio, PDA stood up to support the fight for a statewide recount and to pressure Members of Congress to challenge the counting of Ohio's Electoral College votes;
* When official British government minutes came to light showing that the Bush administration intentionally deceived the United States Congress and the American people about the basis for going to war against Iraq, PDA stood up to demand that Congress initiate impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney;
* When some Democrats in Congress tried to falsely equate supporting our troops with funding the war, PDA stood up to call for an end to the funding of the war and an immediate withdrawal of all our troops;
* And, when our big-money-dominated politics narrowed the discussion on how we address the health-care crisis in the United States, PDA stood up to fight for a single-payer system that replaces health care as a business with health care as a human right.

Now more than ever we need Progressive Democrats of America, an organization that is not afraid to challenge Democratic Party establishment forces when they stand in the way of progressive change. In just three years, PDA has become a powerful voice in Washington and at the grassroots level across the country. And it has become a critical player in supporting progressive candidates for public office, even when such candidates are engaged in Democratic primary challenges.

PDA's most recently-endorsed candidate is Jamie Eldridge for Congress from the Fifth Congressional District here in Massachusetts. Jamie is running a strong grassroots campaign in the upcoming special election this September, and I urge you to visit his website, www.jamieforcongress.com. He is just the kind of progressive leadership we need in Washington today.

I also urge you to join me in supporting PDA. To do its work, PDA depends on the support of ordinary citizens. It does not cater to wealthy interests. It relies on individual donations from people across the nation. I hope you will become a member of PDA today by visiting its website, www.pdamerica.org, and giving as generously as you can.

Our support is critical to ensuring that PDA continues to be there when it counts.

Thank you and keep on,

John
