I was on the fence regarding impeachment...but watching Bill Moyers has made me reconsider.
I believed that it would be futile for the Democrats to start impeachment proceedings without having the votes necessary for success. After watching Bill Moyers today (through a video link provided by a DU'er) I have come to realize that it is not necessary to have a victorious impeachment (I seriously doubt that many repugs will vote to protect the Constitution as opposed to their asses) but impeachment is the only remedy left for the cancerous tumors known as Chainey and bUsh.
I know that I am late to join in with most of the members on DU on this issue, but I was afraid that impeachment would hurt our party in the coming elections. I now believe that although some people will still rally 'round the "war Preznit" and Darth Chaney, many more Americans will sit before their television sets and watch as the proof is presented of our executive leader's high crimes and misdemeanors. Even if it were to damage some Democrats in the coming elections (though I now think that possibility to be slim to none) it is the least that our elected politicians can do: defend the Constitution.

I am writing everyone I can in congress and letting them know that Impeachment is the only remedy left to heal a sick country.

1. There Has Never, Ever Been Such An Assault On Our Constitution
It is time for action, not nuance.

11. Impeachment is the only solution...
nothing else will suffice.

13. Yes, reading the transcript helps understand the fine points discussed...
...in the show. I have printed a copy for my records.

3. The show was outstanding--well worth
emailing the video and transcript to everyone you know.

4. It's the only way to avoid setting a dangerous precedent.
We must use the tools of impeachment ~ otherwise we're saying no big deal, and we can expect more of the same.

14. Yes, even if we had a Democrat in the next election....
we don't want someone running amok and trampling the constitution and all of our rights.

5. I think Congress's approval rating
would soar if they started impeachment proceedings. IMO, the reason so many people disapprove of Congress right now is because they aren't doing anything concrete to check **'s power grab. These investigatory hearings are all well and good, but as long as ** can thumb his nose at them with apparently no consequences, they seem to be an exercise in futility.

10. This is another concept that I have recently adopted...

Congress is being hurt perceptively by not bringing forth articles of impeachment (as well as not doing enough to stop the war). The battle would certainly polarize the country but in the long run I think it is the correct thing to do.

6. I'm giving your post a K&R .....
.... this is the **eighth** impeachment thread to which I have given an R in the last 18 hours.

A movement begins with one single person after another adopting a particular point of view.

You've increased the movement toward impeachment.

There will be many more after you.

9. I completely agree with you Husb2Sparkly...

...yet it took me a long time to reach this point. I bought into the idea that it would be fruitless to bring forth articles of impeachment...but I now believe that the American electorate will be open to the idea if they are shown what damage has been done to the Constitution. There is just no other solution to the problem.

Thank you for your recommendation. :hi:

8. Be serious.
Ethnic cleansing of Republicans is not on the table. First of all, it would be unconstitutional. Besides that, a great many republicans don't like Bush & Cheney any more than you do. We need their support for impeachment.

12. It would also be a great education
to the American Public and the broadcast channels should be made to air the proceedings, like they did the Nixon proceeding. Damnit the Public owns the airwaves!
