Edwards: ‘working poor’ — these are two words that should not be in combination in the United States
==NEW ORLEANS, July 15 — John Edwards came back on Sunday to a rainy New Orleans, the city where he kicked off his presidential bid last December, to start a three-day tour of poverty-stricken parts of the rural South and the urban Midwest in a bid to draw attention to one of his main campaign issues: the elimination of poverty.==

==During his tour of the Lower Ninth Ward on Sunday night, Mr. Edwards spoke to residents and others who turned out in the devastated neighborhood.

“We have an awful lot of work to do,” he said. “You take the words ‘working poor’ — these are two words that should not be in combination in the United States. Most of the country is not aware of the rebuilding by you folks. You’re not getting any help, and America needs to be there for New Orleans.”==

==Since 2004, Mr. Edwards has incorporated his views on poverty into his political approach. Last week, at community meetings in Iowa, not a single person attending a campaign event asked him about poverty. But at each stop, he raised the issue, speaking with passion and calling it a “moral” issue facing America.==

2. thank you!!! I've always considered that a Reupublican ideal
WTF, work 40 hours in the US and you should be "lower class" "working class" whatever, but not LIVING IN POVERTY! Anybody working full time should be able to afford BASIC shelter, food, and clothing, not be a charity case!

To come in as president

In their view - all working people should be poor - the more the merrier (For the Powers that Be!)

What are we supposed to do, throw ourselves off a cliff?

7. No, Edwards has a plan to eradicate poverty in 30 years and cut it by 1/3 in a decade
Compare Edwards' position--and plan--on poverty with the rhetoric on poverty, if any, of other candidates.

9. Edwards is my choice, so no need of selling. BUT... as a poor person myself,
I'm so tired of being invisible.

I do wish the rest of you would remind him of people like me. WE Need To Helped, TOO!!

You have no idea what it's like to be left out of it all!

10. I agree with you
I think Edwards was mentioning making work pay because that is the single thing that can reduce poverty the most. His overall plan is comprehensive and would eradicate poverty for everyone.
