Military preparing an even bigger troop buildup if Bush thinks his "surge" strategy needs boost
More troops in Iraq is an option, general says
Joint Chiefs chairman also stresses toll being taken on soldiers, families

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military is weighing new directions in Iraq, including an even bigger troop buildup if President Bush thinks his "surge" strategy needs a further boost, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday.

Marine Gen. Peter Pace revealed that he and the chiefs of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force are developing their own assessment of the situation in Iraq, to be presented to Bush in September. That will be separate from the highly anticipated report to Congress that month by Gen. David Petraeus, the top commander for Iraq.

The Joint Chiefs are considering a range of actions, including another troop buildup, Pace said without making any predictions. He called it prudent planning to enable the services to be ready for Bush's decision.

The military must "be prepared for whatever it's going to look like two months from now," Pace said in an interview with two reporters traveling with him to Iraq from Washington.

"That way, if we need to plus up or come down" in numbers of troops in Iraq, the details will have been studied, he said.

2. Yes and longer tours...
He repeatedly mentioned his concern about soldiers and Marines doing multiple tours of duty and the decision in January to extend soldiers' Iraq deployments by three months, to 15 months.

"That has impact on families," he said in a separate Associated Press interview at a U.S. military headquarters on the outskirts of the capital after meeting with commanders and conferring by secure video teleconference with Bush.

6. THIS is what you get ...
When you have someone with this guys CLEAR personality issues, specifically substance abuse ... Same patterns rule their lives ...

The addictive mindset ...

Denial - As with any addict in denial that use is a problem, this guy is in denial that this disaster is a problem ...

Rationalization - The above is always supported by a myriad of rationalizations, the Iraq War is supported by the War on Terror meme he actually believes at this point from repeating it so often, as well as the "history will validate me" rationaization ...

You think doing more of the same will make it better - Drinking/using more is the only option while in full blown addiction, sending more troops in will be on the only option for this guy at this point ...

Self Destructive/Destructive of others - Destruction of self and anyone who has a vested interest is the end result of it, no need to elaborate on how this effect others ...

Enabling - THIS is the worst part of this particular situation ... This clown had the entire republican party enabling him for his first four/five years ... I mean, it was like half the bar buying an alcholic drinks and threatening to beat the crape out of anyone who tried to stop it ... NOW, he still has half that level of enabling, but sits in the ivory tower of the White House ... This guy is not only completely disconnected from the consequences of his actions, he has people dutifully ballwashing him 24-7 ...

Bottom line, this WILL NOT end well, and because of the extraordinary high level of enabling (and this guys' long history of enabling likely ensured this even without it going beyond this point), he will never, N E V E R grasp what he has done ...
