THE $400 HAIRCUT IS OFF THE TABLE!
Edited on Tue Jul-17-07 07:54 AM by rocknation
Romney spent $300 on makeup 'consulting'

..."(C)ommunications consulting" is how presidential candidate Mitt Romney recorded $300 in payments to a California company that describes itself as "a mobile beauty team for hair, makeup and men's grooming and spa services."

Romney spokesman Kevin Madden confirmed that the payments -- actually two separate $150 charges -- were for makeup, though he said the former Massachusetts governor had only one session with Hidden Beauty of West Hills, Calif. That was before the May 3 Republican presidential debate...

Let's see how much time the liberally biased media spend holding Romney to the same yardstick as Edwards! Ding dong, the $400 haircut is dead!

2. Hm. $400 haircut vs $300 makeup consultation. Quite a matchup.
This ranks up there with Adam Sandler as Little Nicky "unleashing his evil" by transforming a can Coke into Pepsi. It's funny, but not much of a change.

5. P.S. Bloomberg.com had the exact same story

which I was going to use because they're somewhat more credible than Politico. But in the time it took me to set up the link, the story was reduced to one sentence a new one!

6. 400? Hell, I heard Hannity say it was $1200 on the radio a couple days ago.
Since he's all fair and balanced, I'm sure he'll go after Mitt as well.

11. Here's why there's a double standard:
Edwards is all about economic issues, especially when it comes to the working class. He's talked about instituting a living wage, he's explicitly pro-union, he plays up his "humble" origins, his mass e-mails mention the word 'substance" like a mantra. A guy like that, a supposed salt-of-the-earth, defend the poor, champion of the underdog kinda guy getting a 400 buck haircut struck many as hypocritical or at least odd. It didn't change MY own personal feelings about Edwards - I like the guy a lot as a candidate and as a person and I'd vote for the guy in a heartbeat - I'm just sayin' that that's how some people saw it. (Side note: yes, I expect a lot of people who lack reading comprehension skills will jump all over this post and call me a freeper and anti-Edwards and all sorts of tiresome bullshit. :eyes: (sigh))

Anyhow, a guy like Mitt Romney, who obviously doesn't give a fuck about the poor, who flaunts his elitism like a new Rolex, who obviously puts a lot of time into his appearance, who is solidly pro-corporation, etc. spending 400 bucks on grooming - that just seems natural. Why not? He's a greedy fucking slick pig who eats, sleeps, and shits money.

ANyhow, that's why the media won't cover this like they did with Edwards' similar purchase.

12. The media won't cover it because THEY'RE the ones who insisted
that Edwards' haircut was a political issue--which they WON'T do to a Republican because it would show THEM up as much as it would Romney. Besides, don't TV networks provide their OWN professional makeup artists? And why call it "communications consulting?"

13. The whole issue only arose
because his campaign paid for it. Edwards has since remedied that.

17. Wrong. It just got added to "Breck Girl" feminization meme
The "Breck Girl" and related attacks questioning JE's masculinity go back to his Senate campaign, as do the "elitist", the "bad neighbor", the "shyster", and the other attacks. (BTW the previous "Breck Girl" among the RW was their own Sen. Hutchison of TX. Strange.)

This is standard NC politics, played on a national level. And the "underground" versions of these attacks are much worse. Anti-intellectual, anti-elitists know-it-alls, anti-"Chapel Hill", ... are on the surface. Underneath, it's more like "JE is just another n---er-loving f-g in Chapel Hill"". That is what passes for political discourse on the right in NC.

16. You never can be too careful! After all, you've only got your image, if you're a Republican!

Proud words, from the make up citizen at "Hidden Beauty:"
But Stacy Andrews, who made up Romney for Hidden Beauty, said he barely needs makeup.

"He's already tan," she said. "We basically put a drop of foundation on him … and we powdered him a little bit."
(snip)
Oooooh, be still, our pounding hearts!
