Republicans call for reprimand of Ellison
By Klaus Marre
July 17, 2007

Two House Republicans Tuesday called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to reprimand Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) for reportedly drawing a comparison between President Bush and Adolf Hitler.

“We call on you to swiftly and immediately reprimand Rep. Ellison for his flagrant and irresponsible comparison,” Reps. Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.) and Eric Cantor (R-Va.) wrote in a letter to Pelosi. “These comments inflame hatred and division at a time when we should be promoting our unity and reconciliation.”

The controversy was triggered by an article in The Minneapolis Star Tribune that said Ellison told his audience that the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks “kind of remind” him of the 1933 Reichstag fire in Berlin. The event was used by Hitler and the Nazis to seize special powers, which they used to oppress the political left in Germany.

According to the Star Tribune and a video of the event, Ellison said the fire “put the leader of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted.”

Neither the video nor the story contains any direct comparisons between Bush and Hitler, although Ellison tells one audience member “You and I both know .”

“Even if Rep. Ellison now asserts that he was not implying that 9/11 was orchestrated by the administration, the comparison between Hitler and the president of the United States is disgraceful,” Wamp and Cantor said.

8. Just like Newt reprimanded Burton for calling Bill a scumbag.
Since the Republicans were classy enough to apologize to Clinton and reprimand Dan Burton, Pelosi should do the same.

Oh, that's right -- the Republicans did nothing but chuckle when Burton made his scumbag remark.

Never mind.

9. What bull. Ellison's analogy is correct, and he ought to quit apologizing.
He is not accusing Bush of being behind 9-11. It's still debatable whether Marinus Van Der Lubbe, a Dutch communist, or Hermann Goering or someone else was behind the fire - but that's not Ellison's point. The point is, Hitler used the fire to justify a crackdown, and that is Ellison's point. Bush has used and continues to use 9-11 to justify all sorts of atrocities and affronts to the Constitution. And even Hitler didn't change stories about the Reichstag fire to suit the political moment, as Bush has done with 9-11.

Remember the Bush ticket-only rallies of 2004? Didn't they look something like this?

12. "Disgraceful?" "Unity and Reconciliation?"
You stupid Repug ass clowns! BushCo may or may not have had anything to do with 9/11 (more likely that they knew something was in the wind and let it happen), but they certainly used it to further their own fascistic agenda, and there is no denying that. Ellison was merely making a clever historical analogy, and in a public fashion. Why? Because those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

"Unity and reconciliation?" Go pound sand up your asses. You bastards stalemated one of the smartest presidents we've ever had, locked in your Bonzo Goes To Washington Era, refused to lift a fucking finger through eight years of the Clinton presidency (when we might have done something to prevent 9/11 from ever happening), and now that you're in the minority you want unity and reconciliation? You guys are so conservative, I'll bet your tiny dicks bend to the right!

I'll give you a reprimand, you animate turds!:kick:
