Joe Biden Speaks Out on Protecting America!
SENATOR BIDEN UNVEILS PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH AMERICA’S MOST IMPORTANT MISSION
Published: 07/20/2007

Biden Plan To Defeat Al Qaeda And The Terrorist Threat

Wilmington, DE – On the heels of a recent report that Al Qaeda has regained it's strength since 9/11 and two days before the third anniversary of the unveiling of the bipartisan 9/11 Commission's recommendations, Senator Joe Biden discussed his plan to make America safe and secure. At a press conference in Davenport, Iowa, he unveiled a detailed 10 point plan to accomplish America's most important mission: defeating Al Qaeda and the terrorist threat.

"The Bush administration has failed to accomplish its most important mission: defeating Al Qaeda and protecting the country from terrorism," Senator Biden said. "Al Qaeda is back and determined to strike again and the recommendations of the bipartisan 9/11 Commission continue to be ignored by the Bush White House," said Sen. Biden. "To make America safe and secure in the 21st century, we need to refocus our resources, energy and power on defeating Al Qaeda. We must end the war in Iraq, finish the job in Afghanistan, secure loose weapons around the world, redouble our diplomatic efforts and immediately make our homeland security efforts a national priority."

Biden Plan To Accomplish America's Most Important Mission:

DEFEATING AL QAEDA AND THE TERRORIST THREAT

The Bush administration has failed to accomplish its most important mission: defeating Al Qaeda and protecting America from the threat of terrorism. Six years after 9/11, Al Qaeda has "regenerated" and is "better positioned to strike the West" according to our intelligence agencies. Senator Biden has a detailed plan to refocus our resources, energy and power on defeating Al Qaeda and making sure the world's most dangerous groups do not get their hands on its most lethal weapons.

1) End the war in Iraq.

2) Finish the job in Afghanistan.

3) Insist that Pakistan take out the Al Qaeda leaders who’ve found refuge on its border with Afghanistan.

4) Make it a presidential priority to secure loose weapons of mass destruction in the former Soviet Union and beyond.

5) Build effective alliances and international organizations.

6) Advance freedom and progress by developing democratic institutions in the Middle East and beyond.

7) Compete and prevail in the war of ideas.

8) End our dependence on the "axis of oil."

9) Make our last line of defense – homeland security – our best line of defense by fully implementing the 9/11 Commission recommendations.

10) Pay for it by ending the war in Iraq, putting part of the Bush tax cut for millionaires into a homeland security trust fund and cutting Star Wars.

1. It's Sunday afternoon at the home ball park and the ace of the
Foreign Policy Experts, Joe Biden, is warmed up and ready for the first pitch.

Were he to win our nomination, I pity the Republican who has to debate Joe Biden on just about anything generally and on foreign politcy especially.

Biden would bludgeon any of the Republican candidates on foreign policy.

I believe Biden's numbers will steadily rise as summer becomes fall, and that he will be a major contender for the nomination.

3. Hi, pirhana. Well, hells bells -- I learned how to be a Democrat in
part because of some of Joe Biden's work in the Congress.

He's a long-time expert on foreign policy, and Christ knows we HAVE to have some common sense and insight in our foreign policy with the next president.

Biden's brain on this is the biggest in Washington and one of the very best.

Hope you're doin' well.

4. Biden is praise worthy
He has something to say and says it. You can never be sure how he will approach a subject, they are not "pat" speeches. One can hope he is as sincere as he appears.

""I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man." - Joe Biden talking about Obama

What about Shirley Chisholm and Carol Moseley-Braun?

17. His comments about Obama was just Biden being stupid
I support him, but I will be the first to admit that he is good at saying stupid things.

You don't really think he was calling other African-Americans dirty, or do you?

36. Biden wasn't being stupid.
He just misspoke, or more likely was misinterpreted. By clean, he meant honest. Clean is often used as a pseudonym for Honest. Dirty for Dis-Honest.

19. This is what Obama said about Biden's stupidspeak:
Obama, in a brief off-camera interview in a Senate hallway, said he thinks Biden "didn't intend to offend" anyone.

"He called me," Obama said. "I told him it wasn't necessary. We have got more important things to worry about. We have got Iraq. We have got health care. We have got energy. This is low on the list."

"He was very gracious and I have no problem with Joe Biden," Obama added.

Later on Wednesday, Obama, in a written statement, said "I didn't take Sen. Biden's comments personally, but obviously they were historically inaccurate. African-American presidential candidates like Jesse Jackson, Shirley Chisholm, Carol Moseley Braun and Al Sharpton gave a voice to many important issues through their campaigns, and no one would call them inarticulate."
------------
and this from Rev Jesse Jackson:

African-American 1984 and 1988 Democratic Presidential candidate Jesse Jackson telephoned Biden and reported afterward "Senator Biden...assured me that he regrets that his remarks were misinterpreted. He was serious and contrite. To me, this was a gaffe, not a statement about his philosophy or ideology."<[br />http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/31/biden.obama/index.html

Here is some of the legislation that Biden was involved in:

Press Release

Biden Joins National Black Leaders to Ensure Equal Rights for all Voters

WASHINGTON, DC -- At an event on Capitol Hill today, U.S. Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr., joined several of the nation’s top African American leaders to raise awareness about the effort to renew the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965, the landmark civil rights legislation that has broken down barriers to voting for minorities....
...“That’s why after all of these years, we must remain vigilant – Katrina has taught us that. We must continue to ensure diversity in our democracy and protect the rights of all Americans, irrespective of race, gender and national origin.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Voted YES on setting aside 10% of highway funds for minorities & women.
Vote to table, or kill, an amendment to repeal the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program, which requires no less than 10% of highway construction projects funded by the federal government to be contracted to 'disadvantaged business enterprises'
Reference: Bill S.1173 ; vote number 1998-23 on Mar 6, 1998
--------------------------------------------------------------
Voted NO on ending special funding for minority & women-owned business.
This legislation would have abolished a program that helps businesses owned by women or minorities compete for federally funded transportation.
Status: Cloture Motion Rejected Y)48; N)52
Reference: Motion to invoke cloture; Bill S.1173 ; vote number 1997-275 on Oct 23, 1997
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In '95 he voted to keep Affirmative Action--

-----------------------------------------
And his biggest legislation was the Violence Against Women's Act - which is now law to protect women...of all colors.

-------------------------
There's probably more I could dig up, but this topic is quite a surprise to me.
Biden has worked hard for all peoples rights. Many in his campaign staff are of different minorities.
I just don't see him as a racist. Says stupid stuff - yes, but racist - no....

69. It's not Biden, it's the Media!
No one thought that Biden said anything wrong till the stinking media twisted it all around. In my interpretation of the word CLEAN it can well mean HONEST, just like DIRTY can mean DISHONEST. I frequently use the words CLEAN and DIRTY in that manner.

Horrible foreign policy idea from Biden. In the end they may end up that way, but the U.S. should not advocate failure.

Money from commercial banks

1) Obama $607,259
2) Clinton $492,725
3) McCain $479,085
4) Romney $451,771
5) Giuliani $416,901
6) Dodd $352,500
7) Edwards $131,876
8) Biden $102,250
9) Richardson $83,000

If Biden is so bad then what does that say about a guy who the banking industry is giving six times more?

So tired of all the bashing of the bankruptcy bill. Our Democratic party has done some questionable things, all of them have in the past. None of them are perfect. We just can't wait for the perfect person. Hilary, Edwards, Obama, and including Biden.. but right now is what we are talking about. Quit talking about the past.

I for one love Biden. He is the most sincere I have seen, Edwards comes in next.

66. Welcome to DU, democratsin08.
Right now the polls agree with you.

But I'm thinking that a confluence of events will propel Biden into contention.

I'm calling him to finish 2nd in Iowa in January.

Edwards, Biden, Obama, Clinton, Dodd, Kucinich.

58. "America's Greatness?" IMO, the *Greatness* of a country is revealed by how it treats it's citizens
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 02:43 AM by ShortnFiery
... most especially the working poor. Every time I pick my husband up from this Nation's Capitol, I notice the homeless on the streets.

Jesus says, "Whatever you do for the least of us, you do for me."

My Father told me that at the end of WWII, the Germans were clamoring to be Prisoners of War for the Americans because they were known to be "the most humane" captors. No, I'm not naive to assume that there were many poor exceptions. However, IMO, The GREATNESS of America is reflected by our demonstrated "compassion toward other human beings" NOT our bad-a** military might.

59. It's still relatively early in Biden's campaign and quite late in Bush's presidency.
Only one of the two men has a vision and plan for an effective U.S. foreign policy.

And it ain't Bush.

65. Hi, Like It Is. Do you know that Joni Mitchell song "Help Me" ?
There's a line in it that goes:

"Cuz I've seen some hot, hot blazes
come down to smoke and ash..."

She's referring to love affairs but it kinda works for politics, too.

I've seen some lofty leaders brought down by any number of different things. At one point many people believed Dick Gephardt was a shoe-in for the 2004 Iowa caucus. He finished 4th with 11% and dropped out of the race by midnight.

Mondale was the heir-apparent to the Humphrey legacy and a party darling and Gary Hart whomped him good in New Hampshire.

Bill Bradley was a new face with significant celebrity and brains but then-establishmentarian Al Gore defeated him in New Hampshire.

And for the Pukes, John Connally dumped several million dollars into his campaign for the White House and wound up with 1 delegate vote at the convention.

I think you're right. It's early and a lot can still happen. And usually does.

67. Biden has a tough row to hoe.
I don't believe the vast majority of voters have made a decision on the Democratic nominee. The Media is trying to shove Hillary or Obama down our throats, but many people are choking on those choices. This is a critical time in our history, we cannot elect another divider. We need a uniter. That's why I can really appreciate a Biden/Hagel ticket. It may be just what the doctor ordered. We may have to make some very unpopular decisions in the future, they may even involve reinstating the draft. But the good of our country must come first. I believe that Biden can make those decisions. Hagel can bring some conservative votes with him. I hope the moderator doesn't lock this out. I'm a Democrat, but an American first.

68. I really do believe Biden has a shot at the presidency.
His numbers are already rising, and I think they'll keep rising.

I believe he will contend for the Iowa and New Hampshire contests and place in the top three in at least one, likely both.

If he were to win our nomination, I'd very strongly hope he would choose a Democrat for the ticket veep spot. We simply have too much talent to pass over. Hagel is right on regarding Iraq, but the rest of his voting record is just way far right, IMO. Too many talented blue people to pass up for a red people.

its interviews, its email contacts.

There's a lift to it that wasn't there before.

I think by Labor Day Joe Biden will be spoken of more and more as a likely contender for the nomination.

77. The last "Westerner" who had any luck at all in a land war in Asia was
probably Alexander, and that was short-lived and limited to Persia. By the time he got to the Indus Valley, that was one of the most weary armies who ever got up and walked. And it was a very hot, long desert they had to cross to get home.

Bush's war has placed our soldiers in a similar bind. We're occupiers, alien intruders, and the locals don't like us at all, and it's going to be very difficult to extricate our young people from that maelstrom.

I think any of our Democratic candidates would fare far, far better than Bush, in part because they're mature adults where Bush is essentially a whiney juvenile.

I'm not getting the hawk thing from the Democratic candidates the way I'm getting it from Rudolf Giuliani and his dog-torturing wife. Or McCain, who thinks the Surge is a swell idea. Or Romney, who is one of the most Dracula-like men to ever stalk the earth. No amount of blood is going to satiate Mitt Romney.

86. It's unbelievable how badly managed the Iraq operation has been.
Biden has to be given the opportunity to try his Plan for Iraq. Maliki must be replaced by a federation of three states Shiite, Sunni and Kurd. If it doesn't work, then we should leave. We can spend the billions being wasted there better at home repairing or building new bridges.

87. Yep -- I think Biden's plan will gain currency as things turn even more
sour than they already are for the Bush administration.

They've bungled an opportunity at statecraft something awful.

And they should be ashamed of themselves, if they were capable of feeling shame.

Biden's plan is a risky undertaking but it is potentially beneficial to all parties and it beats the hell out of incompetence, arrogance, stupidity, and entitlement, which are the 4 pillars of the Bush plan.

82. So tired of the bankruptcy rhetoric.

91. Let's Stop the Bankruptcy Rhetoric ! There are more important things.
I personally would have voted the same as Biden on the final bill. The Bill passed on a vote of
74 Yea and 24 Nay. Biden's vote was irrelevant, it would have passed anyway. Half the Democratic Senators voted Yea! On amendments #16 & #28 which failed, on which Biden voted Nay, I would have voted Yea. Biden's vote on the amendments was not the deciding vote! Quit blaming Biden for a bill that needed passing in order to stop abuse of the existing bill. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it bad.

Biden has no intention to beat a hasty retreat out of Iraq. I'm sure he will try to implement his Plan for Iraq and not leave unless it fails or the Iraqis refuse to implement it. Read this, you may learn something.
