"Gore: Hello, Sherman"
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 02:48 PM by SaveElmer

The reports of Al Gore's life have been greatly exaggerated.

There is almost no reason to believe Gore will run for president. On Friday, daughter Kristin Gore told ABCNews.com, "He's really not going to get in the race. He's really liberated working on things he cares about." With each day that passes, more Democrats, and Democratic donors, commit to a candidate who is already in the field. And Gore has already passed up several chances to enter the race with a splash, most recently the July 7 "Live Earth" events.

It also looks like Gore could not just walk into the race and expect to coast to victory. The three most recent national Democratic polls to include him have him a distant third behind Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and the latest CNN/WMUR poll in New Hampshire has him tied for fourth with John Edwards at 8%, behind Clinton (33%), Obama (25%), and Bill Richardson (10%). A CNN poll has Gore fourth in Iowa, a Quinnipiac poll fourth in Florida.

These numbers have less to do with any slide in Gore's popularity among Democrats than with Democrats' increasing suspicion that Gore will not run. And why would he? Right now, he sees only crowds that adore him. He is surrounded by young Hollywood stars who call him "The Goracle" and treat him like an idol. Why would he give all this up for a third presidential run -- one he would be unlikely to win?

1. His most recent book is sort of down on the American political process. Maybe he suspects
that even if he got in the race, interests hostile to his agenda would find a way to thwart him, as they did before? I really don't blame him. What a bunch of crap. He's not going to do it again.

3. We've seen this before. Gore still has issued no Shermanesque statement.
Your spinning doesn't change the facts.

10. Because it was Gore's daughter who announced Gore was staying out of the '04 race.
Of course, we should expect major announcements to come from the children of politicians and not the politicians themselves.

:sarcasm:

4. He will run and he will win
He's being very careful about his entry into the race, though I know the supporters of
everyone else would prefer to think otherwise.

7. Headline is Misleading
The headline on this story is completely misleading (although I know it's not your fault, SaveElmer). It implies Gore said it -- even uses quote marks. Until he does, I will continue to...

8. I agree Satbod Elder, the headline in quotation marks is misleading, however I'm sure SaveElmer
wouldn't purposely try to mislead us. What would he have to gain by convincing us to give up on encouraging Al Gore to run?

9. It's the headline at the link...I didn't make it up...
Which I'm sure you took the time to see at the link I provided...

As you note it is a blog entry not a news story...

11. I don't have issue with the headline, I read the blog, it's the quotation marks
you placed around the title making it seem as a direct quote from Al Gore.

14. I agree, I don't think Gore will run..
Earlier this winter, I thought Gore may be playing possum then suddenly rise up and run.

After the media harping on the incident with AG3 it was just enough of a taste of the familiar viciousness of the media. If there was a low light spark left within him, it's gone now. I sincerely believe, if he were entertaining the notion of running; he is convinced, it's not worth the heartache, misery, suffering and defending RW & LW attacks against himself and his family. imo...
