1. That's the same outfit one wears during the Hajj, FWIW....

When one performs the last ritual of circling the Kaaba (that giant box you see in pics--there's a big stone in there, where Ibrahim supposedly stood and came to the conclusion that there is only one God...).

It's symbolic of going before God without any accoutrements...a humbling manner of dress. Two pieces of unseamed, plain white cloth, is all it is.

It also IS the way you wrap a dead body--no seams or hems in the cloth. You tie it, top and bottom.
