7. These "reverse discrimination" insinuations are very illiberal
and really should stop. This is about as ugly as Elizabeth Edwards's comments about her husband not getting attention because he's not female or black.

I hope everyone realizes that playing the reverse discrimination card is a really right-wing ploy, and we shouldn't be doing it here at DU (and candidates wives should not be doing it either).

White male senators like Chris Dodd have a built-in advantage in the system. If they're not getting attention it's because something about them is not clicking with the public or the donors or whatever. It happens every single election cycle.

On the other hand, women and black candidates have run before, and never gotten undue attention. If Clinton and Obama are getting it this time it is because they are running good campaigns and are good candidates.

I really like Chris Dodd a lot, but I am sure he would be the first to agree with me that your suggestion about why he is not doing all that well is really offensive.

8. Perhaps you didn't see the irony...
The point is that by anyone saying thinking that "if only..." was going to somehow change a perception that someone would be "better" is hopelessly foolish. Other threads plopping up seemed to suggest what Mrs. Edwards tragically insinuated.

And actually, I like Chris Dodd and would imagine he would find some humor in the "assumption". Besides, there is nothing wrong with being a Hopi Viet Nam Vet who converted to Buddhism. That would actually be a pretty fascinating individual.

B-)

12. I got the joke--I didn't think it was funny
It's playing on the same assumptions as those other threads. It's not that the "if only" assumptions are foolish: they're racist and sexist.

9. Maybe he'd get more support if he were a woman named Frieda
Old Bloom County/Bill the Cat reference.

13. In most fields, Dodd would be a winner.
It just happens that every candidate this year is a winner. The only one I have my doubts about is Hillary.

The weird thing about Hillary is that she sounds so mealy-mouthed Republican, yet she is the one candidate that the Republicans hate most and is unelectable precisely because she is so hated by the Republicans.

Dodd is a great guy, knowledgeable on the issues and would be a good candidate in any other year. Too bad for him.

14. True...
If Dodd was running in another time, he'd be taken more seriously. I do actually like a lot of his policies and have over the years. He's made some mistakes, but he certainly has a persona that seems trustworthy.

Plus, being a Hopi...oh never mind...

17. Probably not.
Now if you add "gay" to the list of adjectives, then he might have a chance.

BTW... Where the heck did you get that pic?

18. The pic as a tutorial
It's Photoshopped from a Hopi medicine man and Chris Dodd. Took about 10 minutes.

First, I Google imaged a Hopi and found this great photo:

Then, I found this through Google Image:
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=chris+dodd&btnG=Search+Images

Top one in the corner.

Then, I started a Photoshop file and opened the Hopi medicine man's photo and then pasted the Dodd photo and then masked his face and fit to size.

Since the photos were different color palettes, I desaturated the photo and then colorized it. Refer to your Adobe Photoshop manual for details.
