Did Biden help Obama last night ?
Edited on Wed Aug-08-07 12:43 PM by chieftain
If I heard correctly, Joe weighed in on the " should Obama have said that he would authorize military action against Osama in Pakistan if Musharref couldn't" issue by saying it is a fact that there is existing legislation that codifies this. In other words, Biden was saying that Obama's statement was current government policy not the musings of a neophyte politician. Can anyone else confirm this recollection?
If so, it undermines Hillary's attack and the Chuck Todd meme that Dodd and Biden were doing Hillary's dirty work by going after Obama.

1. No, I think telegraphing what you may do is unwise.

2. Yes, he did. But he chose the wrong time to do it.
Biden should've just answered the woman's question.

8. Biden did answer her question !
He told that the President of the Coal Miners Union was better qualified to answer her questions. I'm sure that Biden knows little about mine safety rules. He doesn't hail from a coal mining state.

3. I heard a pundit say today that he (Biden) is HRC's "attack dog" in the debates
and is running to become her Secretary of State. Could they be a team? And what is Dodd up to with this run? Does he have an agenda, also?

6. I don't believe in teams, but politicians pander to frontunners for jobs and money
all the time.

I think there's an added edge in the second-tier attacks on Obama in that they view him as an upstart, a (horrors!) much younger threat to their candidacies that they simply didn't anticipate. They were waiting for a chance to pounce and they thought they had him on Pakistan. Too bad for them that their pro-IWR stance made the counterpunch from Obama such an easy play.

7. Yup. Biden and Dodd, flanking Clinton onstage, seem poised for Cabinet positions in her admin
I though Edwards had a very unfortunate position, second from the end on the right. Olbermann kept going from left to right soliciting answers. I was disappointed he didn't switch hit, and go right to left at least a few times.

14. uh,huh

These are the same pundits who are trying to limit our choices for President by pandering to only 3 candidates in both parties.

4. That's the way I took it also
To me it looked like he wanted to end the foolish debate by finally telling the truth about this policy.

He said this on Hardball last week also.

Biden Takes Shots at Obama

Sen. Joseph BidenJoe Biden seems fed up with Obama's foreign policy credentials and it shows.

After making sure everyone knew that Obama has said he would call the Canadian president rather than the prime minister, Biden just took another shot at Obama.

"All of these people talking about going into Pakistan are going to have to send your kids back to Iraq," said Biden in answering what would happen if Al Qaeda took over Iraq after American troops left. "Bush has not told the truth for seven years. It's time we tell the truth."

9. My humble impression
was that Biden said that not acting on reliable intelligence that Osama is in Pakistan would be "illegal" or something because it already is policy. It sounded to me as though right now there's no proof and if there is we'll act on it. And we should. I could be wrong w/ this because I was in shock that he didn't answer that widow's question and I was mortified that he used his time to respond to the Obama/Pakistan issue instead.
Hillary seemed quite chummy w/ Biden last nite and agreed w/ some of his views. It seemed like SHE was kissing HIS ass or something. I got the vibe from watching them that Hillary just might find a spot for Joe in her Admin , like Vice or SOS. As a Biden supporter I want him to win but realistically if he doesn't he'd be a hell of a VP that could later set him up to run in the future.

10. I don't Claim to know Biden's motive.......but what he said was factual......
and so, no matter why he said it, it needed to be said.

The fact is that what Obama said is what the law also states. If it helped Obama.........maybe it is because Biden was just being "fair" to Obama based on the heat Obama had been taking unfairly on this. Maybe Biden is simply not such a cut throat politician until he would'nt bring this fact up, considering he was in the know about it?
