About That Pakastani State of Emergency.....
When will people ever know to disbelieve the press. They always get everything wrong and also have an agenda.
Their current agenda is to discredit Obama and make it seem as if he accidentially set off an international incident. So, he cannot be trusted in the white house so, maybe you should vote for the ever perfect Hillary.
Truth be told. Many people do not want Hillary. Many people like how obama thinks. It is an intelligent answer to the failed conventional wisdom policies of the past 20 years. the kind that gave us such hits as the iraq war.
anyway, aside from this story, there is nothing else to tell people the true story but this:

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Private Pakistani television channels reported on Wednesday that President Pervez Musharraf was preparing to declare a state of emergency imminently, but government spokesmen denied there were any such plans.

State-run Pakistan Television quoted official sources as saying the reports were baseless and Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani denied to Reuters that a meeting had been held to discuss the imposition of an emergency, as rumors swept the country.

A member of the inner circle of the Pakistani leadership told Reuters, however, that U.S. ally Musharraf was considering the option, which could allow him to extend the tenure of the national and provincial assemblies by 12 months and delay elections due by the turn of the year.

The government could explain such a step by citing growing insecurity because of the threat posed by Islamist militants allied to the Taliban and al Qaeda after a series of attacks, many of them by suicide bombers, in the past month.

1. Do you really think the state of emergency that has been brewing
since Musharraf took office was the result of anything Obama said...

I find it pretty arrogant to think that the Extreme Islamic Clerics who have been building support in the western border areas of Pakistan are guided by American primary politics...

2. You've got the cart before the horse there.
Obama's comments were in RESPONSE to the fact that Pervez is losing power and is having trouble keeping his grip.

It's not that Obama's comments loosened Pervez's grip, it's that Obama noted that the guy is unable to git-er done.

It's been going on for awhile over there. Pervez can't jail ALL his enemies. He hasn't the room...

3. probably pushed by Rove
throughsome clandanstine channels to make it look like it came out of Pakistan. Probably an effort to try and weaken the Democratic field by chipping away at our growing foreign policy heft.

4. I'll agree with you about the media narrative
Certainly, even with as little attention as I've been paying to all this silly season foofaraw, I've picked up a hint (and more) that somehow Obama's comments are to blame for the "sudden" deterioration of Musharraf's standing. Obviously, however, one had nothing to do with the other, but the media loves them a good story, even when it's completely wrong and makes no sense. I don't know that it is attributable to media malice against Obama as much as that he's just the target of opportunity in this particular case.

That's not to say, though, that we shouldn't keep a very close eye on what may be a developing narrative that Obama can't be trusted. Interesting that the media would seize on such thin broth to argue for Obama's alleged incompetence when there's been plenty of raw meat incompetence staring them in the face from the Bush administration. But then, the media have been so complicit in that disastrous story that it's no fun to tell it.
