What you should know about Rudy:
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 12:18 PM by rockymountaindem
This article might not be about the long and short of Giuliani's career, but it gives some startling anecdotes about his practices and penchant for intimidation that might be useful in an argument. They sure startled me. From the Colorado Springs Independent:

"9/11 Commission member John F. Lehman called the city's "command and control and communications ... not worthy of the Boy Scouts, let alone this great city." Still, in his book Leadership, Giuliani calls the OEM "one of the most important decisions I made."

"In the weeks following 9/11, Giuliani quickly turned coat from mourning to moving on. After an October memorial, he removed 75 percent of the firefighters still searching for human remains at Ground Zero from the site, and installed a "scoop and dump" operation using heavy equipment, removing everything to a Staten Island landfill."

"Firefighters rose in anger. Bodies were found in the landfill. In response to the firefighters' protest, Giuliani sent in the cops, who physically fought and arrested firemen. Giuliani then ordered the arrest of two fire union leaders, one of whom called Giuliani a "fascist."

"Freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do."

14. Besides Village Voice and Vanity Fair, devastating Harpers article this month
Unfortunately, this one isn't available online. Anyway, it's the August 2007 issue of Harpers magazine {not Harpers Bazaar ;-)}.
And there's the documentary by Kevin Keating, "Giuliani Time"

3. Freedom is about authority? Isn't that like regulation?
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 12:36 PM by HypnoToad
And isn't regulation said to be a bad thing? I mean, corporations hate regulations. And that's why we have lead in more toys, tainted toothpaste, sullied seafood...

5. Guliani presided over a city in which a very large building was
brought down, possibly deliberately, no explanations, no regrets. What happened to WTC7 defies explanation, at least the official explanation.

7. I don't know
He's popular in polls and people seem to believe the crap he says about himself. I think we can expose the lies, but it won't be easy.

If you think George Bush is Satan, just wait for President Rudy. I fear his soul is even darker than the dark Lord...

10. It's 97degrees here and I'm sitting here with cold chills
If this is true, then Giuliani is rotten to the core, and doesn't deserve any respect whatsover; let alone be President of the United States. Haven't we been through enough under the Bush-Cheney rule?
If one of those victims were one of my family or friends, I'd never quit beating up on that creep; it's just too sad for words.
The Republican party has lowered the bar to a new level since Bush. Anything goes now.

11. Mr G is an Authoritarian Asshole, a hypocrite and a phony.
He is the other side of the Mafia coin. Most NYers loath him because they know him.

13. Gotta trounce him in the electoral college / youtube CNN report of his prosecutorial abuses
1) We have to trounce everywhere. As we saw in the 2000 election, winning the popular vote is not enough. We've got to take enough heartland states.

2) Check out this 9 minute compilation of CNN & MSNBC videos of Giuliani's missteps as an overly zealous prosecutor, ruining the careers of accused but innocent people, and rushing to clean up ground zero, but leaving the body parts in trash heap. Some of those parts were used to fill pot-holes -last part, from MSNBC.
