When I was young I was told that a person had to be a resident of a state for fourteen years before he could run for office. Does anyone know of anyone who has run for Congress even though they were not a resident of a state for fourteen years?

Moments after I posted this piece and before you replied I looked the issue up myself. I was told that by a history teacher so I think it is understandable to believe what a teacher said. However, I looked it up in a political science book and according to the book there is no residency time limit for running for Congress. You only have to be a resident.

one must reside in the US for 14 years to run for President (and presumably, Vice-President).
