From Blast Off!: http://flprogressive.blogspot.com/2007/08/progressivism-is-not-dead-but-its-on.html

Perhaps you’ve heard of the Political Compass website, where you can take a test that places you on a grid based on the degree to which you are “left” or “right” on the economic scale, as well as how socially libertarian or authoritarian you are… Anyway, thanks to a recent article in London’s TimesOnline, we can see how the 2008 U.S. presidential candidates fit on the grid.

Jeez, I'm even more to the left than Gravel and Kucinich, assuming the methodology used is accurate. (When I took the test, I ended up slightly to the south and left of them.)

The thing I want to know is: what are all these candidates doing in the upper right quandrant, leaning authoritarian when the Constitution is so unauthoritarian, and leaning to the right when the folks on the right in this country have been so completely disastrous and wrong in their beliefs? I mean, Rethugs always end up looking like hypocrites and idiots, and here are almost all our candidates leaning to the right.- H'spit

1. I would love to see the polling info across the Country applied
to that grid. Rather than where you or I am, where is the majority of the Country.

I also suspect you're seeing a lot of authoritarian showing because this is a primary and everybody wants to look like they are most in control. Wether that will last through a Presidency is another question.

2. Hmmm...

I would've thought Wacko Brownback was so far to the right, he'd be off the map?

5. Why we need a far left in this country
We may disagree with many hard-left socialists, but they would broaden the debate and balance out the hard-right autocrats.

Here's my rating, btw:
http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-8.50&soc=-8.21
Economic Left/Right: -8.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.21
