Rasmussen: In Surge, Giuliani Now Tops Clinton by Seven Points
In Surge, Giuliani Now Tops Clinton by Seven Points

Thursday, August 16, 2007

After being virtually tied with Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for several months, Republican contender Rudy Giuliani now leads Clinton up 47% to 40% in the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

In the match-up of the frontrunners, this result marks a significant shift. For the last three months the two frontrunners have never been further apart than three percentage points. Last month, Giuliani and Clinton were separated by just a single point.

Senator Clinton fares modestly better against former Senator Fred Thompson. Clinton now has a three point edge over him, 46% to 43%. All four previous Clinton-Thomas have also been toss-ups.

<>The slide in Mayor Giuliani's favorable rating seems to have bottomed out for now. After hitting a low of 50% favorable for two weeks in a row, he's now viewed favorably by 52%. Thompson is viewed favorably by 43%, bringing him back up to where he was in late July.

In contrast, Clinton's favorable numbers have dropped a bit. She is now viewed favorably by 45%. That’s the first time all year her ratings have dipped below the 47% mark. Clinton's unfavorables have always been high and are currently at 52%.

4. Yes, but he's not BEATING them in the poll.....
Granted, all REPUBmussen polls have to be taken with a grain of salt.....

And I have a feeling reality will set in on Giuliani once a serious examination of him begins.

3. Sounds like Edwards and Obama fare little better vs. rudolph
Democratic Senators John Edwards and Barack Obama have often done better than Clinton in match-ups with Giuliani. But recent polls show the former mayor improving against these adversaries as well.
-----------------

no numbers for those match ups tho...

6. It never ends with the godawful unfavorable ratings for HRC
and that's with the kid glove treatment she has been getting from the MSM, which greets her every debate performance with unqualified spasms of rapture.

7. Hillary is WAY too polarizing
Republicans think she is some ideological extremist even though she's not. I know many moderate Republicans that like Obama and hate Hillary, even though Obama is slightly to the left of Hillary!!!

10. it's basically a match-up betw 2 repukes, one in dem's clothing
-- with a choice between a pandering, corporate-loving thinly disguised "democrat" and a full-blown scumsucker, maybe "the people" would rather have the one who is at least up front about his ties to sleaze and big money favoritism by association with the party that openly supports those things. HRC is pretending to be something she is not, while Ghouliani is not really pretending.

18. hey, I know that. But it just seems pointless to keep calling BS on the "Hillary is a repuke" line.
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 09:47 AM by wyldwolf
I get a better reaction from calling another candidate the same thing then challenging the person to compare the records of the two.

Funny thing is, though, NO ONE who calls Clinton a "repuke" wants to really compare the records of Obama/Edwards with Clinton's.

20. well, I'd at least like to goad them into explaining WHY they feel that way...
...when several other candidates have near identical voting records and policy stances.

22. That must mean that Obama is losing to Giuliani by 4 since Edwards was barely beating Giuliani in
the latest Rasmussen surveys. Since Edwards always does better with Rasmussen than Clinton and Obama, if Edwards was only barely beating Giuliani, then Obama must either be tied or losing.
