It's been interesting looking at the succession of reasons those opposing Hillary's nomination have come up with for why the Democratic Party should not make her the standard bearer in 2008...
First, she was going to be too polarizing within the party, the activists would hate her, the netroots would make her "radioactive." She didn't have a chance with that kind of internal opposition....but then, as polls clearly show, Hillary has the highest favorability among Democrats of any of the candidates....soooo....they moved on to the next one...
Well she may be popular in the party now, but that will change once people get a good look at her in the debates...her voice is too shrill, she isn't a good speaker, and she is so off the charts right wing for a Democrat that Democrats will see her for what she really is....but, with her winning most, if not all the debates (so much so that Barack Obama decided not to debate her as often), and with the canard that she is somehow a "right winger" or "neocon" being debunked (again)....they moved on to the next one....
Well, she may be doing well in the debates, but she is waaay too polarizing among the general electorate to ever win the White House...she cannot flip a single red state, and will probably lose a bunch of blue ones too...but now as we see, not only will she be competitive in red states, recent polls show as of now she would flip between 8 and 10 of them...sooooo...they have moved on to the
latest argument...
Well she may be able to pull out a Presidential win, but she would kill us down ballot...especially in red states. She is sooooo hated that Democrats running for state and local office won't stand a chance...now aside from the ridiculous notion that someone who hates Hillary so much they would be willing to vote against a down ballot candidate, but still vote for her as President...there isn't a scrap of evidence that this assertion is true. In fact, like the electability argument, this has simply become conventional wisdom, which I am sure will go down in flames like the others....
But the real question is....what will they come up next...?
