DOMA of 1996
Has any of the canidates come out and said they would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act?

1. Most have
I know Obama, Edwards, Kucinich, and Gravel have. Richardson says he regrets voting for it, which is close.

Clinton has specified that she'd only want to repeal part of it and Biden hasn't said anything that I've heard about it lately.

8. Richardson has said he would repeal it.
He'd have to get his civil union bill on his platform passed. He specifically stated that he would repeal it.

"I want America to be a tolerant nation." Don't ask and DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) -- I'd repeal."

2. Presidents don't have the power to repeal laws
so if any candidate said they would, they're delusional.

5. Good point
Maybe a better question:

Where do they stand on the DOMA of 1996?

3. I can't tell you how disgusted I was at Clinton for signing that.

9. remember
it was Republicans who passed that bill just prior to the 1996 election. Clinton could've vetoed it, but he very likely would've lost the election. It was a rather popular bill.

6. Same here.
Shameful, just shameful. It was an awful betrayal of the LGBT community, which had worked so hard to get him elected, because he promised them the moon. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was pretty bad, too.

Ugh.

10. Is Hillary even willing to stand up to DOMA -
- given that her husband is responsible for it? Or will this be a conflict of personal interest for her?
