"Al Gore is Running for President..."
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 10:44 AM by Labors of Hercules
Al Gore is Running for President.
Because it was time to stop begging.

Dear Al,

Can I call you Al? (I'm picturing you saying, "You can call me Al." and then us chuckling over the clever Paul Simon joke).

Al, the love-ins are over.

No more Oscars. No more Leonardo DiCaprio kissing your butt. No more Time Magazine back-scratching. No more pretty, graphically pleasing websites begging you to run.

Clearly, none of this has worked. It's time for a new tactic.

This time, we're just telling you that you're running.

That's right. The option really isn't yours anymore. We've decided.

You're a candidate for President in 2008.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Please start preparing a platform.

Sincerely,

America

20. Oh yes, he read The Assault On Reason...
What a reasoned, intelligent, argument. :sarcasm: I say keep cutting and pasting these. It only proves how far away some are from his actual message. And if you feel the need to push him this hard it only looks desperate. I now know what he meant when he said he hadn't seen what he was looking for in order for him to consider doing this again.

Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 11:09 PM by utopiansecretagent
Duh!

That's because we ARE desperate!

America is in desperate need of Gore's intelligence, experience and leadership! No other candidate compares.

"It only proves how far away some are from his actual message."

That's mighty presumptuous of you. Project much? You assume with blanket certainty that those of us who post about wanting a Gore presidential run don't care or support all the other good things he's doing. That's bullshit. You don't know. You have no idea what some of us are doing when we're not on DU.

You just go around pissing on threads, accusing DU'rs of not letting Gore do his 'thing', pretending to know with some sort of psychic ability exactly what Gore thinks (perfect example below).

"I now know what he meant when he said he hadn't seen what he was looking for in order for him to consider doing this again."

If I was in Gore's shoes - meaning I was reluctant to reenter politics at the presidential level especially after being what he's been through - what I'd be looking for in order to 'consider' it is exactly what's happening:

GRASSROOTS, BABY. A MAJOR nationwide movement to draft my ass. Poll numbers so massive that there could be no possible defeat. The whole country practically BEGGING for me to run.

I'll keep plugging (and holding on to my $) for a Gore presidential run until he says "absolutely not" and endorses someone else.

You don't want Gore to run? Fine.

Just stop pissing all over everybody that does.

That's the most words I've seen you type in these threads yet. Hit a nerve? Looks like it especially when you are one of those who follows me around specifically to dog me with your one liners. Now why is that if what I say is so insignificant? I'll tell you why: because it isn't and eveything I have typed here is in line with his OWN WORDS and thoughts. Can't take a little reality in accesssing the obsessions here while the world melts around us and you and the same people continue to play games? Well, you better suck it up because reality which you obviously refuse to see is going to bite you on the butt a lot harder than anything I could ever type here.

But it isn't surprising to see that the usual contingent of "Gore supporters" here who always push him the most to enter this toxic system (and it is always the same people which makes me wonder who some really are, especially when it would be so easy for RWers to come here and infiltrate organizations to put this agenda over discussing his work,) are also the NASTIEST people on this site. Do you want this good man to run and perhaps risk his own life for what you think is a noble cause, or do you just want him to run to appease YOU? I think I know the answer to that based on the lack of true heart, substance, reason, and facts in these threads. You don't like that appraisal? Too bad.

And if you think others' opinions are "pissing" then you also obviously do not have a handle on being able to debate, which of course is no surprise in this country either where people would rather get their news and everything else handed to them in thirty second sounbdbites so as not to make them actually have to think about anything for too long. So I am sure "run al run" fits very well in that repertoire, but again it is the exact thing he talks against in his book which he believes has eroded Democratic debate which you also obviously don't give a damn about.

So by continuing to push him into a system you have absolutely no intention of getting off your ass to fix FIRST as he is trying to do now with his endeavors and only issuing rude ultimatums to him instead of to yourself, to me it only shows a true laziness and that is something we can't afford now because as he has stated one election isn't going to fix what ails us, and he should know. But I hope you feel superior for "taking me on" here because you can't stand reading the truth. Too bad you all can't take on Bush and his traitors with as much fervor.

Bottomline:

This is nothing more than harrassment to me at this stage and I will continue to give my views on that whether you like it or not.

If you don't, then it'll likely be Hillary or Obama...either way we go into the election with at least 40% of the country dead set against voting for either of them - admittedly for sad and sick reasons, but nonetheless they're there.

28. Great site! Jeremy! Have you guys seen the Two Cents Campaign at Americans for Gore yet?
Finally- all of the Draft Gore Sites have merged!

http://www.americaforgore.org/

AMERICA FOR GORE: NATIONWIDE COALITION CREATED TO
DRAFT AL GORE FOR PRESIDENT IN 2008

National Milestone Reached in Growing Grassroots Movement

BOSTON, Massachusetts—September 13, 2007—They are teachers and students, scientists and doctors, secretaries and CEOs, store clerks and store owners, factory workers and artists. They represent every demographic group and every geographic region in the country. They are everyday Americans, from coast to coast and across the political spectrum—Democrats, Independents, Republicans, conservatives, liberals, moderates. And they have two things in common: They have become involved in the political process (many for the first time), and they want Al Gore to run in the 2008 presidential election.

THE TWO CENTS CAMPAIGN

Show Al the Money!
If you want to do your part to help convince Al Gore to run for President, join our two cents campaign. All you have to do is put two pennies in an envelope, and send them to Office of the Honorable Al Gore, 2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620, Nashville, TN 37203. You can include a note that you'll send a proper contribution once he announces he's in the race. We believe that Gore and his advisors will take note of this tangible evidence that America needs him to run for president. It is simple, won't take long to do and will only cost you half a dollar including stamp and envelope and, of course, the two pennies. So dive into the couch and retrieve the pennies that will represent your opinion, and let's get Al in the race!

Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 11:04 PM by countmyvote4real
He’s awesomely dense, plodding and draws a line nowadays.

I applaud his early history, but this latest episode tells me he is too full of himself or something I don’t understand: like not contesting the 2004 Ohio vote counts. When questioned about this by a FS college student activist (loud mouth), Kerry did nothing to stop the student’s removal and subsequent torture (tazed even after the fact.)

I have to ask myself, “What has Kerry done for me lately. Is he going through a McCain menopause?” I’m not saying that Kerry is “cuckoo for coca-puffs,” but he seems to be tinkering on the edge of that madness.

He scares me nowadays.

will be exactly one year out from the Presidential election.

I expect we will see Al Gore appearing on Meet The Press.

There's a very small chance he will announce his candidacy.

But more likely he will endorse John Edwards for President.

You read it here first! B-)

49. Because of issues like the Climate Crisis and Katrina
Gore has said that he is likely to endorse one of the Democratic candidates.

Here's what Gore said to Larry King on CNN (May 22nd):

Gore on Hillary Clinton:
"She is running a very forceful campaign. She has earned the strong support of her constituents in New York."

Gore on Barack Obama:
"He is also running a very strong campaign. I think that he is appealing to a lot of people who like the sense that he's talking about issues in a fresh way. And, you know, he has a lot of support."

Gore on John Edwards:
"Likewise, running a strong campaign. Put out a lot of very thoughtful policy statements and positions. I think you can see the strength that he's gained from having been around the track last time."

My feeling is that if he doesn't run himself, then Al Gore is most likely to endorse John Edwards.

The League of Conservation Voters has described Edwards' plan as the "most comprehensive global warming plan of any presidential candidate to date."

Of course Al Gore is better-qualified for the Presidency than John Edwards.

But if John Edwards wins Iowa, I honestly think he can go all the way.

50. I am guessing
that Gore is waiting for the Nobel decision to be made first, whether he is chosen or not, before announcing.

45. Will the next letter someone sends to him....
be made out of newspaper clippings telling him we'll hold him at gunpoint until he runs?

55. He shouldn't run, unless he wants to run.
I love Al Gore. I really do. He'd be a fantastic president.

But he shouldn't run, unless he really want to run.

56. Why run?
The man has a great gig now. Elder statesman, Oscar-winner, fame, wealth, huge adoring fanbase, and he's in a position in life where he believes he can effect change, and be himself. I think it would be a step down for him to have to be President. And I don't think he has the desire to run, which is the really hard part. And I don't think he has the ego now to want to be president. Maybe he used to, but I think he sees better things for himself in other directions.

Why do it?

59. Exactly...
And he did his political service for nearly thirty years with climate change being put on the back burner whenever he tried to bring it out... and now as a free man it is out. Why should he then go back when he is now going forward? To me I also find it baffling as to why so many people fawn over being president of this country, especially now. To me it looks more like punishment. You would think we really do live in an aristorcracy the way some obsess over it. It's the people who are the ones who make or break this country, and for me I am grateful he is now one of us because we are the richer and stronger for it.

61. Private Citizens
In general, I believe private citizens can do more to effect great change on the world than a president. Look at all the great innovators/writers/scientists/enterpreneurs in history who massively changed the world without holding political power. Gore can do far more for this world as a private citizen than he could ever do as a president.

Also, I understand liking someone, but do you all think Gore has some magic power to bring peace to the middle-east? To stop Iran from developing nukes? To cure poverty? I think some people go a little overboard in their belief that he would somehow magically transform the world.

62. I liken him to Thomas Jefferson
A brilliant statesman of many talents whose greatest work was done while not president, and who actually did not really care for the trappings of being president and had to be cajoled into it. He was a great statesman, author, inventor, scientist, botanist, and builder (Monticello) who placed greater emphasis upon his writing the Declaration of Independence, starting a college, and writing about religious freedom than he did being president. If you ask anyone what Thomas Jefferson is known for, would they answer that he was the third president first? The majority will say if they know, that he wrote the Declaration of Independence. So on that I agree which is why I won't push him in any direction regarding that.

As for your last paragraph, as a supporter of his for going on twenty years, no, I know he is only human and think it is actually unfair and dangerous to give such superhuman characteristics to any human. However, I do think he has a great presence which is now being felt in our world. He has many good years ahead of him, and with his continued participation in the national and global debates and hopefully our joining him in those debates, so do we.

63. Jefferson and Gore were political opposites.
Jefferson believe in freedom of speech, Gore wanted to censor
music and video games for years.

Ron Paul who I also support as Kucinich's friend is a
representation or Thomas Jefferson.

64. Censor?
There is a difference between censorship and warning labels. Censorship is the government banning certain expressions. I don't believe Gore ever advocated that. Labels or age-restrictions are not censorship.

Even after Tipper went after groups like 2 Live Crew, the Mentors, etc., you could still go buy that stuff. So where was the censorship?

Also, as a parent of two little kids, I am grateful to have some warnings on some of the crap that gets tossed out into the stream of commerce.

Did he blame them?

I am vaguely familiar with that case, but don't recall Gore expressing an opinion on it. If he did, enlighten us all.
