An important thought from DKos on healthcare proposals...
If the top tier candidates's common stand on health care is a representative sample of government on behalf of HRC's "real people" represented by K Street, who wins the nomination is a non-issue. When the American people discover that the "solution" to universal health care is "the government says you have to buy private health insurance or else"... they're going to have the same feeling of betrayal that we got from the "we surrender" Democrats over wiretapping, Iraq, and impeachment.

At that point, the Party is over.

2010 may be a great time for third parties looking to become major parties, though.

1. but hey, you get a tax credit!!!
This is it exactly. I cannot believe this is Hillary's proposal.

And yes, Obama's plan involves insurance, but it doesn't mandate you to spend 1/4 of your income on a policy and go bankrupt waiting for a tax credit that may never come.

2. It all depends on how it's implemented and in what order
I would hate to have a mandate for health insurance with only some half-assed measures to try and bring premiums down, as it would end up screwing over a lot of people. And if premiums and coverage issues were brought under control, mandating health care would be unnecessary.

4. Indeed, "the devil is in the details"...

Which makes me nervous to no end that said details are likely to remain under wraps unless/until HRC is elected and unveils the proposal -- by which time, it will be too late for the voters to pass judgment on it.

It also reminds me of NAFTA, where the crucial issue was how much protection for workers and the environment was built into it. In that case, too, we were assured before the election that Bill (a "Democrat like us") would obviously press hard to make sure there was such protection, and not go ahead with any version of the treaty that lacked it. Surprise, surprise...
