This Ain't Your Grandmas Southern Church...Obama Breaks Barriers
This site's writer expresses the best why Obama was at that church and what was the reason for going to them in South Carolina.
obama knows the deep church tradition of the south and he wants voters for our party.

Barack Obama spoke to the congregation of the Redemption World Outreach Center in Greenville, SC today. I’m intrigued by looking at the website for the church–a 10,000 member multiracial congregation that is based in the Pentecostal Holiness tradition. Ten or fifteen years ago when we’d think of a politician attending a church in SC, it more than likely wasn’t a Democratic candidate. If it was a Democratic candidate they were probably attending a predominantly black church. To have a Democratic candidate attending a Pentecostal Holiness (one of the more conservative denominations) multiracial church is pretty amazing to me. I think Barack Obama is already breaking barriers that most people aren’t even noticing. Even if we don’t agree on everything, Obama is making it such that we can at least have a civil conversation. It’s also a reason I believe he’s going to do much better in the South than many people think.
