Biden steps outside the box.
2 of the B's in the BBB amendment are going to address the Greater Des Moines Council on Foreign Relations.

What makes this so unique is that these 2 "B"s are both running for POTUS. Of different political parties. But they both agree that federalism is the key to unify Iraq. Even tho they are at opposite ends on everything else, they have come together to change the course we are on in Iraq.

Date: Friday, October 12
Event: Biden, Brownback Outline Iraq Plan
Time: 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m. (Central Time)
Hosted By: Greater Des Moines Committee on Foreign Relations
Place: Wakonda Country Club
Address: 3915 Fleur, Des Moines, IA
Country Club Phone: (515) 285-4965

“The overwhelming majority of Americans want us to get our troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible without leaving chaos behind.,” added Sen. Biden. “I look forward to joining Senator Brownback to explain how the Biden-Brownback-Boxer amendment makes Iraq the world’s problem while establishing a political solution that gives Iraq’s warring factions breathing room to resolve their differences.”

Flame away if you must - but I am impressed.

1. Both of these guys are to be commended for coming together on this vital issue.
I know Biden has an excellent rep of being able to bring both sides together on issues, but I'm unfamiliar with Brownback. What little I've seen of him leads me to believe this may be the ONLY issue on which he and Biden agree :7 but the fact that he felt so strongly about this to join forces with Biden says a lot about him as a person.

To me, this is an example of one of Biden's strengths and gifts - the ability to cut through the BS and political lines to deal with what's important, inviting and welcoming his Republican counterpoints to do the same.

3. And by doing this they know darn well that it could hurt their campaigns.
But like Biden always says, there are some things more important than elections.

2. There is hope for this country!.... for the moment.
It's be nice if Biden reaped the rewards he deserves, now. What would also be great is if Biden and McCain won their respective primaries, then go onto undertaking traveling debates across the country. They both pledged this to each other some time ago, should they both win the nomination. Keeping my fingers crossed...

4. It would change the whole tone of elections.
The swiftboaters would be lost.

6. This should be great for Biden
Brownback is not inspirational. The opposite of Biden. Only Brownback has the courage to come out and admit a Dem proposal is worth trying. Some will say that these 2 have nothing to lose but you must admit it sailed through the Senate. What other Democrat has accomplished this?

Wonder if this will get air time? Des Moines, great, big city...

Iowans could easily get tired of the usual rants and eager for something fresh. Hey, I'm keeping the positive mode as long as possible. After Clark didn't jump in it was hard deciding on a candidate. Course I'd choose one with no money and no media exposure like the big three.

8. It was mentioned briefly yesterday on Hardball
and showed both Biden and Brownback's picture. Hopefully it will get more press as it is very unique and impressive.

9. In the current political climate this is quite an accomplishment
There will be those, I suppose on both sides, who will criticize "doing business with the enemy," and to them I'd say the enemy is anyone who wants to see our country divided and, thus, fall. Democrats don't have to abandon their ideals in order to begin healing the great divide in this country. You can either continue running into the brick wall with the foolish hope of it giving way, or you can be patient, plan your strategy and use your head to figure out a way around or over the wall. The Democrats can either take their cue from the Republicans and repeatedly run full steam into the wall by sticking it to the Republicans every chance we get, or we can once again prove to the country and the world that we are the smarter Party. Joe Biden represents the smart, pragmatic approach.
