The difference between conditions and pre-conditions |
|
I've noticed that, on DU, there has been some confusion about the meanings of the words "conditions" and "pre-condiions" as it relates to diplomacy. I have seen posters use the words as if they were interchangeable.
pre-conditions are what requirements that must be fulfilled BEFORE any talks can begin. Some (fictional) examples of pre-conditions are:
1) "We won't talk to you until you release the hostages 2) "We won't talk to you until you renounce terrorism.
conditions are requirements imposed on the talks themselves. Some examples are
1) "We will discuss the following issues" 2) "We will not discuss the following issues"
