It should be more like an eight lane highway- maybe I-95 going through West Palm Beach on a Sunday morning at 5:00 A M...

2. LOL! Agreed. But Auth works for the Phila. Inquirer, which is a determinedly centrist paper.
Not that Tony is, but I'm sure the Inky editorial board loved this toon. It's more about how she's trying to navigate a strictly center path herself, tottering only slightly to the left, but mainly keeping her footing (so far).

5. it is exactly right-on...
she cannot say anything without negative scrutiny (she can't even laugh). She must not be too liberal or too right-wing or too corporatist without the roars of disapproval (and even hatred). She must be stronger than a man--but not too strong or she is a bitch. She cannot apologize without being weak, but if she doesn't--she is hard headed.

She is walking a fine line

6. Lets not overlook the fact that Bill Clinton took the middle road.
You cannot win by being too far left. The idea is to win and then go the way you want to go.
