Tucker Carlson tease regarding Gore
Segmenting into a break, he said "Al Gore is not going to run for president, despite calls asking him to do so."

GOES TO BREAK

I am awaiting breathlessly for the show to continue and simultaneously scanning DU for whatever announcement Gore made today that I missed....

BUT BACK TO THE SHOW

Reports on an article by someone named Simon suggesting Al Gore will endorse Hillary. There followed commentary as to the nature of the speculation as to whether or not Gore would actually do so.

NO WHERE IN THE SEGMENT WHICH HAS NOW ENDED DID TUCKER MENTION ANY STATEMENT AS TO GORE STATING HE WOULD NOT RUN. SO HE MUST HAVE BEEN REFERRING TO STATEMENTS OF THE PAST.

I really am turned off by GOT YOU teasers newscasters are resorting to in order to keep listeners tuned in.

And now it appears posters here at DU are starting to emulate them.

Whatever happened to simply playing it politically straight with one's audience in order to maintain a little credibility? Is that just too passé today?

2. Tucker is an idiot. Have you ever noticed how his show has pretty
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 05:57 PM by EV_Ares
much the same panel all the time, Stockard and that old guy that is a dem. You never see them on any other show hardly. He will always throw out an attack remark on a dem and then if he is shown wrong on it, he will try to wiggle out like that was not what he was saying.

He is a total lamebrain and evidently a dem hater. He got his job by his republican family, believe his father was an ambassador and he grew up in the most expensive town near San Diego.

3. Wasn't his father a fund raiser for Scooter Libby's defense fund?
He annoyed me plenty on Bill Maher's show.

7. I heard that mentioned before
Earlier in his career I also heard that was why Tucker was originally given such an opportunity on cable because of his father's influence. I cannot remember what entity he's associated with, however. Maybe someone else knows....

U know, I think that is right, had forgot about that, he definitily is big
in republican circles. Tucker did't get the job on his intelligence.

13. His stepmother is a Swanson [food] heiress. Tucker has even added
Swanson to his name.

6. I just started turning him on again because he features Bill Press
I always suspected Bill Press got a raw deal because he based George Bush* when it was not politically expedient to do so. He gave Tucker a real boost when he sat beside him on the Spin Room, so I guess it's payback time for Tucker.

The other day Tucker was looking down his nose at the possibility of a 2008 Gore run, and Press responded "I hear this everyday from Dems. When asked who are they supporting, "I am waiting for Al Gore," is the response.

I just thought Tucker had wizened up to the point where he realized how seriously some people take this topic and wouldn't run such a blatant tease about it.

4. DUers STARTING to emulate... no, sadly...
That's been going on for quite some time. What was (for a very short time) somewhat amusing, is now really really irritating, at least to me.

8. Okay, I was trying to be kind but you are correct
I JUST read that thread here at DU implying the same thing when the "tease" came on. I thought "surely this cannot be true considering their history." And, as it turns out, both were a tease -- the thread title and Tucker's stay-tuned line.

I do not like these kinds of cheap shots that are simply designed to attract attention but come up dry as far as delivering anything of substance.

11. Some think that no harm comes from it.... Unfortunately, these
nonsensical and unsupported subject lines are often repeated. It seems some peruse the threads so quickly (probably surreptitiously, while at work) that they swallow it hook, line, and sinker, then go on to repeat the nonsense. Like a cyber game of "telephone," this crap gets propagated.

14. I just ran across that thread I mentioned earlier and see it has
received 5 recommendations. Isn't that all it takes to make it to the Greatest Page? If it makes it there or ultimately the Home Page, I will truly be disgusted.

5. Hmm. So "Simon" suggests that Al Gore will endorse Hillary -
I long for that day. It will be the mother of all Worldview-Implosion-O-Rama-slash-Gloatfests here on the DU. I may have to take the day off just to keep up! The champagne is in the fridge!

15. Perhaps, but I am not sure
only the "Simon" part stuck because I was so upset by the following words. Sorry.
