I am SO SICK of the Clinton/Obama bashing threads
You people sound like a bunch of 6-year-olds!

Or the Republicans.

It's hard to tell, since both behave the same way.

But the "Hillary is a Nazi" "Oh, Yeah, Well Obama has big ears!" fights are taking over what should be a substantive, informative message board where grown people can share ideas, debate issues, and generally build support that will help Democrats get into a position of righting the wrongs that have been perpetrated by this disastrous administration. Instead, we're being bombarded with the most childish, hateful, petty and sometimes downright stupid arguments between candidates supporters (some Edwards, Kucinich, Biden, Dodd folks have gotten involved in this, but not nearly to the degree of the Obama and Clinton supporters).

This really needs to stop - you're not doing your candidate a lick of good with the nastiness you're showing on their behalf. You're turning off potential supporters. And you're wasting enormous time and space fighting about bullshit.

Of course, you're all grown people (although I can't really tell from your posts, I'm going to assume you are) and can do as you please regardless of what I think or say. But I really wish you would try another tack and talk about why people should support YOUR candidate rather than trying to tear down other candidates.

PLEASE stop it! You're ruining it for the rest of us!

1. It's not gonna stop.
Many Hillarians see Obama as an obstacle to her nomination, and vice versa. That's the root of all the animosity between the two camps.

2. It's a damned shame
I haven't settled on a candidate yet but I would be glad to vote for any of them if they get the nomination. It's really sad that people assume that a political opponent must be a mortal enemy - the candidates probably don't even see each other that way.

P.S. I love the photo!

4. And I suppose Obamians think the Hillarites fill the same role?
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 10:16 PM by MADem
But what about the EDWARDIANS????

Not these Edwardians, mind...

To be serious, I can't stand those threads. But I don't think they're gonna stop either.

I'd like to hear just what the candidates are saying, what the vibe is out on their campaigns, WITHOUT a backdrop of snark and shit. I spend more time feeling bad when a candidate gets crapped on, rather than doing what I should be doing, objectively analyzing their strengths and weaknesses and starting to move towards a choice. I really don't want to be standing in the voting booth flipping a coin!

5. I wish there was more objective debate, but the two camps are
extremely passionate and more often than not we attack the oppossite candidate in ways that force his/her supporters to respond in the same manner.

19. That's exactly how it works
I don't see it as limited to Clinton and Obama supporters, though. Depending on situations, there are supporters of any candidate who will rise up and smack somebody, including some Kucinich supporters, for example, who are regular smackers.

8. What's even more interesting
is that the threads that object to the Hillary bashers are locked because the Hillary bashers are a "group of DU'ers" that you can't "call out."

However, I have yet to see one thread that attacks Hillary supporters be shut down.
Are they not a "Group of DU'ers" that are being "called out?"

9. I'm just sick of Clinton/Obama threads, lol.
Since we get a thread to discuss what we're sick of. :D

They don't offer value in return for the space on the front page they clutter.

10. Since the bashers have helped Hillary immensely, I'm cool with it.
I just hope they don't spend the next eight years serving as slime-carriers for the Right--though I'm pretty sure they will.

Perhaps their time would be better speant promoting a candidate instead of hating one?

11. Some people over identify with their candidate of choice, like sports fans.
Some supporters of candidates are like sports team fans that form a bond with their teams and identify themselves with them, and, just like fans, some are more devoted than others (hard core fans and casual fans).

For the hard core their self-esteem and evaluation is tied with the team or candidates success, so this place is very similar to a sports message board between two rival schools.

15. I agree! More Beaconness-Bashing Threads Are Needed!!
I'm just kidding...

And I completely agree that it's pretty depressing to see this level of toxicity on DU. I'm guessing that I speak for the majority of people around here when I say that I like my candidate (see avatar), but I'm going to work my ass off for Hillary or Obama or Dennis or Joe or whomever is our candidate. This notion of "If Candidate X doesn't get the nomination, I'm not going to vote" is juvenile and counter-productive.

On a lighter note, my thirteen-year-old daughter says that she's not supporting Hillary because she wants to be the first woman president.

16. I love it. Your daughter sounds precious
I agree that the level of toxicity that exists on this board is very discouraging.

I am truly amazed at the level of vitriol. Someone referred to me as mentally challenged because I didn't agree with their assessment of their candidate. This reminds me so much of high school and it's truly sad.

People see their candidate as the only victim of this type of treatment and ignore the offenses done to other candidates.

Let's see..they are both 13, they aren't eligible until they are 35..that's 22 years..I guess the bashing threads on DU for the 2029 primary are going to be the "Jeff in Milwaukee daughter" camp against the "youthere daughter" camp...Prepare for the fight of your life sir!
LOL!
P.S. Maybe we can work out a deal for them to be running mates?

25. What Obama bashing threads?
There's at least 12 active HateHill threads right now ( not counting the reposts of the same topic every 3 or 4 hours by the Usuals...), and none at all bashing Obama or Edwards, or any other Democrat.

I'll agree there's a few posts here and there.
But I can'tremember ever seeing a single thread bashing Obama, certainly nothing on the scale of the constant contributions of the Usuals.
Have you a link an Obama bashing thread to share?

31. I've seen threads
Mostly I've seen posts, which are more than a few, that bash Obama.

My concern is not that there are more anti-Hillary posts than anti-Obama posts. That shouldn't be the issue. The issue should be that they even exist. It's wrong on both sides.

32. Or you can go back to 2003 as you just did to make even more upset.
by writing a post which brings Dean into it. And then implying those who defend him are bigots.

Those of us who do live in a very homophobic area of Florida and have rallied with the gay community against the churches here are far from being bigots.

Now you have that post on the greatest page, bringing up even more anger.
