Edwards endorsed by former Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes |
|
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/2007/10/18/edwards_1019_web.html-snip- "Barnes said Southern Democrats have too often had to tip-toe around their nominees because they weren't popular in the region. He said that won't be the case with Edwards, a former U.S. senator from North Carolina. "I am ready for a president that talks like I do and I can understand without an interpreter," Barnes added.
Barnes said Clinton will have a difficult time winning the general election because so many Americans have a negative view of her.
"Whether we like it or not, she's a polarizing figure and I think she would have a very difficult time being elected and governing," he said.
Taylor said, "I am ready for a president who can bring people together.""

6. I have been saying for months that Clinton is polarizing and Edwards can have wide appeal... |
|
in the general election. Moreover, Edwards can win in so-called "red" states, and the Democratic candidate must win by a large enough margin to overcome Republican vote stealing efforts in 2008.
Kerry's writing off the "red" states, especially in the South, made it possible for Republicans to steal Ohio and keep control of Congress. The Democrats must mount a fifty state campaign, or at least, compete in several "red" states to win the presidency, and, at the same time, keep control of Congress.
Clinton will campaign like Kerry, campaigning mainly in "purple" battleground states, and thus conceding much of the South and the West. Even worse, she would energize and bring out a currently demoralized right wing contingent as no current Republican candidate could. This not only would give the Republicans a chance to steal another election, but could lose the Democrats seats in Congress.
Edwards grew up in the South and would feel comfortable campaigning there. That alone gives him an advantage over any other candidate we could have.
This election is too important to promote it as a vehicle for electing a woman president, as some Democrats believe is possible. Kerry was anointed as the "electable candidate" in an "anybody can beat Bush" race. This kind of thinking got us eight more years of a Bush/Cheney presidency. Another eight years of a Republican presidency will break this country.

7. A Friday morning kick for this good news. Edwards just keeps chipping away, keeping his focus |
|
and running his campaign smartly.
He really needs to hit a home run at the next debate, Oct. 30th. I look for him to do that.
