Harkin says Dems in Iowa will try to move primary, but will seek party waiver.
Harkin said Democrats would not reschedule without a waiver, in order to preserve its good standing with DNC leaders. If I am not mistaken, SC said they will seek permission also.

Harkin: Dems probably will move up caucus

MUSCATINE, Iowa — Iowa Democrats will likely move up the party’s presidential caucus date, following rescheduling last week by state Republicans, to preserve Iowa’s first-in-the-nation status, Sen. Tom Harkin said Saturday.

“It looks as though we’re going to go Jan. 3,” Harkin told a group of about 100 Democrats gathered for a Muscatine County party fundraiser at Muscatine Community College on Saturday.

Harkin, D-Iowa, said he spoke with Gov. Chet Culver and Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Scott Brennan, and believes Iowa Democrats will seek a waiver from the Democratic National Committee to reschedule the Jan. 14 caucus in light of Michigan’s decision to hold its primary Jan. 15. Harkin said Democrats would not reschedule without a waiver, in order to preserve its good standing with DNC leaders.

What a refreshing difference from the way Florida handled it.

Four articles catch on to Florida's primary ploy

From the Palm Beach Post:

Friday, August 31, 2007

It's not a very proud time to be a Floridian.

We're looking bad again - and deservedly so. It's over voting. (Surprise!) And this time, a purely self-inflicted

Unfortunately, there's no good way to honey-coat this. Florida's transgression is something that people can understand, even if they have no interest in politics. It's one of those things you learn in kindergarten: Don't cut in line.

What a tragic bunch of divisions this has caused here in Florida. Florida blggers are aligned with the state party, and they have not presented both sides. And one of the bloggers I have respected is speaking at the Florida convention this week as a blogger. Many are upset over his hit piece on Dean today...it surprised a lot of us.

Stoller's attacks on Dean today are using Florida party talking points.

1. The GOP move to Jan 3, a 2 football bowl day is a bad move. They are just trying to dampen turnout.

2. Sounds like it helps Romney and Clinton
Romney because I am convinced his support is 100% bought and paid for.

Clinton because more men will be attracted to the bowl games than women.

But, of course, those little theoretical political turnout things never seem to work out in practice.
