Bernie Sanders does NOT support impeachment |
|
I don't think there is a more liberal member of congress than Senator Sanders. He has openly said that he does NOT support impeachment. There isn't any way you can call him a sell out or a coward etc.
What do you think of his choice to NOT support impeachment?

2. Question has to be, why doesn't he support Impeachment? This .. |
|
Administration has done so many things that warrant Impeachment in the Constitution... So to me Sanders is going against every thing that the American people stand for within that Constitution.

on things like SCHIP than on political retribution, I'd bet, especially since impeachment will not actually succeed. Do we have his reasoning?

4. Sanders is in the Senate |
|
It is up to the House to bring impeachment charges. The Senate has a trial to settle things.

He has said openly that he does not support impeachment proceedings, that they are a waste of time and that our energies should be focused elsewhere.
I applaud Sen Sanders for his stance.
I have heard a lot of people slam Sen Reid for not supporting impeachment, but he is in the senate too. He has been called a tool of Bushco, weak kneed, etc.
Is Bernie Sanders also these things? Or perhaps impeachment just isn't best for this country?

He thinks it's a waste of time. He's spoken to the issue in some detail numerous times on Vermont Public Radio which has Bernie as a guest a half dozen times a year. He takes questions from the public, and impeachment is invariably one of the topics brought up.

Enforcing the law and the obligations of our constitution should NEVER be a waste of time, especially for issues that are this important!

This administration is wasting money hand over fist and impeachment does not come cheaply. Also, there is not enough time to get Cheney and then Shrub. Also, we dont have the votes. We may have a majority on ther hill but it is NOT a progressive majority. Far too many of the Democrats are centrists and an equal number dont have the cajones necessary to impeach. If we had a perfect world and all the votes we needed we might be able to bring it off but....you might not get the job done before election day and by then, who cares.....Shrub and Cheney will be, at that time, headed for the door and hopefully, a Democrat will be poised to move into the WH. Maybe its best we save the money impeachment would cost, to continue the fight to get health care for our children as quickly as possible and to pay for the pullout of troops from Iraq.

22. Even if Shrub & Vader lose 1 day in office due to impeachment |
|
that is worth it, because history will record them as a disgraced impeached administration. So the excuse that there is not enough time is a lame one.

atarted to rethink their own priorities.
Hardly anyone who would actually be involved in empeachment seems to want it, and perhjaps it's time to stop yakking and listen to why.

19. I don't accuse him of anything. |
|
I appreciate much of his work.
I just happen to think he's wrong about impeachment.
I think the FIRST job of Congress is to support and defend the Constitution and the rule of law. When the executive branch violates either of those, I believe it is the DUTY of Congress to impeach.
It's not about political posturing, maneuvering, or deal making. It's about the right of the people to hold their government accountable for protecting and defending the Constitution and the rule of law, and the DUTY of Congress to do just that.

23. Feingold and Conyers to my dismay have been cagey in the same way... |

Edited on Sun Oct-28-07 03:26 PM by calipendence
I think that is more of a sign of some undercover BLACKMAIL or other serious threats that are going on behind the scenes in Washington than necessarily a critique on their characters. I wish they were more strident and uncompromising, but I really do think there's something going on VERY UGLY behind the scenes in Washington.
When the one person who IS strident towards doing impeachment, Dennis Kucinich, is one of the few that have faced VERY REAL death threats in the past, when he barely escaped an assassination plot while he was the mayor of Cleveland, I think that it shows that we will need some VERY FEARLESS people leading this effort to follow through on their constitutional responsibilities on pursuing impeachment.

more delusional nonsense. No, Bernie is not being even a little bit cagey about impeachment, as anyone who's listened to him on the subject knows. And no, I doubt he's being blackmailed, and I mean, I really, really doubt it. If he was, and if Leahy was- and Leahy's death threat was at least as real as Kucinich'sa- neither of them would be constantly speaking out against or taking action against, bushco.
