When will Kerry or Edwards tell us what they will do? |
|
We know what Bush has fucked up, so when do we find out what they stand FOR instead of AGAINST. Im not talking about the platitudes like Clark failed miserably at selling. I want to hear HOW they will fix things, not what is already broken. Are we allowed to know about issues or just "hey, at least i'm not Bush?"

3. I know what Edwards stands for. Middle class opportunity. |
|
It's in just about every word he utters -- spreading economic, political and cultural power down and out, rather than up to the top of steep and narrow wealth pyramid.
It's the umbrella issue that everything he says falls under. Every sentence in his Real Solutions booklet fits within that logic.
Not only is this his policy agenda, it's his biography. You can't look at this guy, think about him, or listen to him without perceiving for what he stands.
I've never seen a politician who has such a coherent and logical message reaffirmed by just about everything he has ever done or been in his life.
It's quite remarkable. This is a one-in-a-150 years candidate. The last one like him was Lincoln.

How about going to their websites and reading the reams of stuff that they no doubt have up there?
Even right here on this forum you will find plenty in that regard.
Clark had more detailed position papers than any other candidate, btw.
Who is yours?

5. You don't even have to go to Edwards's web site. Just stop, look and ... |
|
... listen.
He's not making it a mystery to solve.
I can't think of a candidate who has been easier to read.

or watches all the town hall meetings.
The thread starter obviously doesn't.

Where is Sen Edwards on stem cell research?
I have watches all debates & town halls.
Clark, Dean & Kerry have all discussed resuming stem cell research, but I have not heard Sen Edwards discuss this.

I've heard him on this issue by the way.
Also, if this is your one issue, you need to visit bankruptcy court and see what's really going on in America.

11. I've always made this point: if you have to go to the candidate's site |
|
to figure out what they're all about, that candidate is probably going to lose.
You have to get it across in a way that doesn't require people to go searching.

17. I still don't need to go to Edward's web site to figure him out. His |
|
political persona is perfectly clear from what he says every time he's on TV, or issues a press release, and even from his commercials.
His policies are logical, coherent and consistent.
The optimism and happiness part are part of that same coherent whole -- they're what FDR did to win and to fend of fascists.

12. The "Hey, At Least I'm Not Bush" Message Is Enough For Me |
|
Don't bore me with unnecessary details... just the fluff is all I need to hear.
I judge my candidates by how much they HATE. You can tell a good man by what he's OPPOSED to. If he hates and opposes the same things that I do, well then... golly, he's all right with me.

Well, until and if the voters ever demand detailed positions beyond "I against the shit you really hate, and for the stuff you really like", I guess that will do. :)

18. First and Above All, Our Candidates Have to Beat the Crap out of Shrub |
|
ANY Dem in ALL ways will be infinitely better than Shrub. The cynicism of the Shrubbites should have shown us in 2000 and 2002 that ISSUES DON'T MATTER, WINNING does. We can have laundry lists of issues for every single candidate "proving" why we should support this one and not that one and split hairs and count angels on pinheads to choose between two SIMILAR candidates, or we can do what the anti-choice churches do and blacklist candidates based on single issues------and while we do all that, the Shrubbites are laughing up their sleeves because they KNOW what they will do and can even LIE about the issues today but in the meantime they are focused on WINNING to do their worst LATER. End of (bemused) rant.

20. Lessons Learned From Howard Dean, DK, and GWB: |
|
If you have a vision for the country, an election is not the time to articulate it.
What if Bush shared with us his true vision for the country: "As president, I promise to further a corporatist neoconservative agenda by invading countries and gutting social programs"
Wouldn't go over well.
Dean & DK both have articulated translatable visions for America - it's not a winning strategy. It takes longer than an election cycle to get people on board with a message that's any more complicated than "I'm better than the other guy". Kerry & Edwards have figured that out. And it's especially true with all the fear in our nation - people are less likely to explore uncharted waters. On the Bush side, the fear of the outside world brings people to him - he knows that quite well. On our side, the fear of Bush is (apparently) the only thing we can agree upon - therein the only thing you can campaign on & win.
It doesn't mean Edwards & Kerry don't have a vision. It just means that they know that sharing it would put them under scrutiny of Dean-like proportions. Better to go the Bush 2000 route.
It's a darn same, & I'm not giving up. Because with the original crop of candidates, I believe we had a chance to get our country off the wrong path AND onto the right path. I'm supporting DK becasue his vision deserves more mainstream acceptance - and the only way to do that is to accept it yourself.

21. Actually one of the reasons that Kerry has done so well |
|
Is that his entire platform is based very much on specifics, dollar sums, what things will cost, how the money will be raised, how much will be raised, backed up by GAO figures which are rather conservative. Kerrys plans and suggestions are all filled with dollar sums and time periods, which noe of the other candidates have actually done. or had done by Government agencirs who do this for a living.
Kerry has stated when he will be sending legislation to congress to start a universal health care plan (within the first 100 days of being elected).Same thing with legislation to repeal the Bush TAx Cuts to the wealthy, which have a far better chance of being repealed than the entire package. None of the other candidates has made such a statement. Dean was most vague about it, with much being contingent on balancing the budget first. I cannot remember with certainty, but I beleive that Dean stated that it would take seven years to completely balance the budget at the last Iowa debates.
He has also stated that within weeks of being elected, he would go directly to the United Nations to negotiate what it would take for them to become a larger part of the mix in Iraq. As far as all of the candidates go, the one reason that he has gotten sao much support is the fact that his ideas specifically have addressed the questions of those people meeting with him in person regarding what he was going to do, how he was going to do it, what it would cost, and how he would reduce costs. All of his figures came from the GAO who are rather conservative at estimating costs and time frames.
