Poll question: Which of the top 3 candidates you trust the most on the IRAN issue and WHY?
Of course, I say Obama- His position has been consistent and clear from the start: No War With Iran, and a new phase of diplomatic relationships with Iran and other so-called enemy states.

1. I'll have to look up Obama and Edwards.
Hillary has proven herself untrustworthy on so many other issues, I no longer trust her on the one that would have made me vote in her favor in your poll.

2. I trust them equally on Iran.
They have different levels of experience, but with a Democratic State Dept. and advisers, I think any would use diplomacy.

4. Interesting response. However, which one you think
will manage the issue better, with better meaning avoiding war with Iran and fixing the relationships with that country?

7. I don't know.
Clinton or Obama, I guess. (At least I've narrowed it down!)

3. I think all three, as well as the other Dem candidates, would work with Congress
and the international community in regards Iran, and the larger regional issues.

5. I wouldn't trust Edwards to mow my lawn, and there's no real differences between
Obama and Hillary on Iran (no matter how hard folks try to create such a difference) so I'll say I trust whichever one has the most trustworthy Secretary of State.

So ask me in a year :-)

I have to say I also would trust any of our candidates except Hillary. She is too hawkish and I simply do not trust her with it.

12. Bill Richardson
Diplomacy, Not War, With Iran

By Bill Richardson

<snip>

Saber-rattling is not a good way to get the Iranians to cooperate. But it is a good way to start a new war -- a war that would be a disaster for the Middle East, for the United States and for the world. A war that, furthermore, would destroy what little remains of U.S. credibility in the community of nations.

A better approach would be for the United States to engage directly with the Iranians and to lead a global diplomatic offensive to prevent them from building nuclear weapons. We need tough, direct negotiations, not just with Iran but also with our allies, especially Russia, to get them to support us in presenting Iran with credible carrots and sticks.

No nation has ever been forced to renounce nuclear weapons, but many have chosen to do so. The Iranians will not end their nuclear program because we threaten them and call them names. They will renounce nukes because we convince them that they will be safer and more prosperous if they do that than if they don't. This feat will take more than threats and insults. It will take skillful American diplomatic leadership.

14. Barack Obama hands-down.
Edited on Thu Nov-01-07 09:51 PM by AtomicKitten

* Edwards cosponsored the IWR. He rallied so convincingly for the war, his Op-Ed was posted on the State Department's website. I will give him props for opposing Kyl-Lieberman.

* Hillary voted YES for the IWR and rallied for the war. But the piece de resistance was her YES vote on Kyl-Lieberman.

* Obama has been on the right side of all issues of war all along, and that matters to me.

24. Obviously Obama
Hillary and Edwards have a tainted history and although they confess to have changed who is to say they won't slide back to their old ways. Having said this I do respect Edwards and think his anti-war position is genuine but I would still trust Obama the most.
