How many times do the Dems let Tim Russert hit them with idiotic and unimportant questions
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 12:15 AM by JCMach1
in a national debate?

How many times has he done this?

Virtually every memorable point Wed. night's debate was a complete distractor issue (a la the later Roger Ailes)...

Drivers licenses

UFO's??????????????????

It's time to keep Russert out of it!

The final straw happened for me when he moderated the Florida debate for Gov. in 2002 where 'somehow' JEBtm was basically caught having seen the videotaped questions in advance.

NO MORE RUSSERT!

I am sorry, but Tim (and the Repugs) won the debate... no Dem that I saw

3. You might as well invite Carl Rove to moderate, or Roger Ailes
Russert is toxic to Democrats...

2. He should be KO'd from the general election debates
Vernon Jordan (the usual Democratic hack who usually takes care of these types of things) should insist on no Tim Russert in the general election debates.

6. Brian Williams would be an acceptable compromise to me
The other side will not permit Olberman, just as our side would not want Brit Hume. Williams is at least fair and does not try to showboat and gotcha, regardless of his personal views.

5. Refuse him as moderator. Easy.
The candidates need to band together and insist he not be a part of any debate. This is a credible threat as the dems have boycotted Fox debates. Enough with the treasonous bag of blathering shit.

10. Except for the UFOs those were valid questions.
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 12:37 AM by saracat
I want to know why Hillary is refusing to release those records. What could be so bad that is in them? Her answer was BS. And the drivers license issue was extremely valid. We need to know where candidates stand on those immigration issues. These were some of the best issues Russert has asked. And Edwards won this debate by a mile. Two faced Hillary refused to answer. But Russert was right to put her on the spot.

11. How so? we are in the middle of a war and an economic crisis AND what does he give us?
Who signs the release on archive info??? So why doesn't he or any of the others on stage release private info on their conversations with their spouses....

Driving licenses? I don't agree with Spitzer on this, however as a practical matter Hillary and Spitzer are right concerning how to practically deal with the issue. Everyone else is taking the politically expedient position on this. But who exactly does this issue effect? It's a Willie Horton kinda thing... except with immigrants as the racist scapegoat...

12. She is campaigning on her husbands record and she has advocated transparency for the WH. It applies
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 12:59 AM by saracat
to her as well. She wants it both way as she does in most issues. She won't even address the fact that she was caught "lying" about her SS position in an alleged "private ' conversation with the teacher in Iowa, Bowman and it was witnessed by an AP reporter. But that is supposed to be okay? She told Russert on thing "twice" and says another privately? And immigration is a huge issue.Voters need to know where she stands. She finally, today said she sided with Spitzer. I don't agree with either of them. Dodd gave the best answer but at least she gave an answer. And she should have given it at the Debate. This candidate can't be trusted. She can't even give a straight answer about iraq. She is always saying there is no way to know. And everything is a hypothetical she refuses to answer or says they all think alike.Either way she commits to nothing and pledges nothing. She will never get my support because of these answers.

14. Dodd gave a non-answer...
So you have a million people without licenses. What do you do?

Americans have to face the reality of decades of immigration non-policy...

17. he did it to Hillary in 2000
Russert has been trying to catch out Hillary with "gotcha" questions about Bill and other things for years now -- in fact, his efforts to do this date all the way back to Hillary's first Senate campaign in 2000. And then, as now, the Hillary folks were mighty pissed off with him. The bad blood goes way back.

Does anyone remember the then-notorious question about Bill's affair that Russert asked Hillary during a 2000 debate with GOP candidate Rick Lazio? The Hillary camp fumed about it afterwards and Bill even publicly went after Russert over it. It was the ultimate "gotcha" moment, really: Russert caught her off guard by playing some video of Hillary saying in a 1998 interview that she and her husband were totally shocked by the allegations of Bill's transgressions.
