Bill Richardson appears in Playboy!
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 06:11 PM by MethuenProgressive
Richardson appears in Playboy. not like that! In an interview, he delivered his criticisms of the Democratic Party, his resentment of "elites" and the way forward for his presidential campaign. http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/11/02/445511.aspx

On the Democratic Party: “We’ve become the party of the poor instead of the party of the middle class. I believe we have to help the poor, but we forgot about middle-class anxieties.”

“In 2000 our party made a tactical mistake. We should have run under the banner of economic prosperity; instead, we ran under a banner of populism. It was totally out of sync with a country that had a balanced budget, a surplus and prosperity.”

“We have to broaden our base. Too often we have nominated candidates who may be very strong in New England and Los Angeles and San Francisco but are unelectable in the great in-between. I resent some elites telling me my position on gun control is wrong, for example. It’s a cultural issue in New Mexico and the West, a respect for a way of life. Most gun owners are law-abiding. I’m not going to change my position. That’s where I may deviate from others in my party, too, the elites on the coasts. I have very common tastes.”

1. I know there's a man-boobs joke in here, somewhere.
Seriously, though. Richardson's been getting some good press lately.

11. But Big Bill really looks good in a thong!
I wonder if I can get away with the excuse, "Honestly honey. I just bought it for the Richardson interview." ;)

4. He's off my list
The problem is that people like Bill Richardson don't realize that there are way more people near the poverty line than than near the middle class 10%. Fuck him.

6. He's talking about elections, most folks consider themselves middle class.
Bill Clinton won on emphasizing the middle class. It's a problem faced by platform of ending poverty, most folks don't consider themselves to be poor. It's a stigma thing. Most consider themselves to be in the middle class and are the majority of folks that vote. I'd guess that most folks from above the bottom 20% up to the upper 5% in household income consider themselves middle class. Some are poor and others are quite well off depending on family size, debts, and region of the country.

8. That's the problem
Most folks aren't anywhere near the professional class which is who politicians mean when they propose help to the middle class in the form of tax cuts. Most people have no idea that 75% of the country is just as broke as they are.

10. My thoughts exactly.
Glad to see someone else recognizes it for what it is.

It's beyond me how we can get that Burger Thing is exploiting women when they use sex to sell their product, but I bet some of those same people are scratching their heads at your comment wondering what could possibly be the problem.

To hell with Richardson.
