I think the time has come for me to say good-bye to my above-average
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 06:31 PM by monmouth
interest in politics, it's become sort of addictive. It has come to the point I am embarrassed to say I'm a Democrat out loud. The constant losing, losing all of the time has me frustrated and left with a feeling of despair. I'm powerless and no one on the team I voted for in DC is doing anything I worked and voted them in for. I was so proud of Pelosi, the first Madame Speaker, what a disappointment. Schumer/Feinstein was the last straw. They are all a disappointment.

I'm no longer going to tune into Keith or any news programs. I am going to rest "my beautiful mind" and say to hell with the entire scene of a bought and paid for media, bought and paid for politicians, etc. I'm going to go to the library tomorrow and pick up many books, good books and get this entire disgusting American political scene out of my system. I don't care how much they lie, whine or argue. I will be out of it. I have enjoyed DU immensely, some very witty writers and great posters. I wish you all well and hope your candidates do what you expect of them. Best holiday wishes to you and yours....

2. Please Don't Give Up Yet
Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 06:36 PM by Mike03
I know... I've been there, which is why it has taken me over four years to even rack up 1000 posts.

It's going to get better--it has to.

Besides, you contribute a lot here. It would be sad to lose thoughtful people like you.

I know--the past eight years have been HELL. There's no other way to describe it.

Please try to hang in there.

Isn't there some way to say goodbye to the influences that disturb and depress you, but keep the sources of power. That is what I've tried to do. No MSM unless there is a disaster, and a handfull of important talk radio that cheers me up, and then DU.

Mike

3. You took the words right out of my mouth.
The Democratic party has become a lost cause. Nothing remains but a shell.

4. You'll Be Back
I know. I have said the same thing many times. Yet, it is impossible to entirely give up hope. And you have to check in at DU just to ensure that there are other sane people out there.

5. Said the same thing to myself an hour ago. Maybe being blissfully ignorant like most Americans is
the answer. I'm tired to being so thoroughly upset and pissed constantly. I've donated, worked the polls and GOTV, emailed, called on every issue, and it feels like none of it matters.

I was so excited after the 06 elections, thinking that even though we were barely in the minority in the Senate, we could start to make a difference. I wouldn't care if they lost by vote, or veto, if they'd just stand up for our Consitution and an honest way of life. I seriously don't see how they are any different than the hated repukes.

I haven't decided yet, but am leaning right where you are. rec'd

6. It's hopeless.
We sent them our money, we voted for them, we have defended them and they shit on us.

8. Don't blame ya a bit...
A friend and I were just talking yesterday about how we're both so upset and fed-up with this political situation that it's best to read good books, spend time in nature and focus on the people in our lives rather than pay such close attention to what's happening in DC ~ or not happening in the case of the Dems.

Here's a little something another friend sent me today ~ enjoy!

10. I think many feel your frustration.
Do not miss out on elections or just speaking what you believe to be right just because a few have betrayed their constituencies. They will get theirs and in fact that might be the answer is to vent at them when you are ready too. Don't let up on them either as this will constantly remind them of their crime. You didn't do something wrong, they did. Take some time for yourself as all soldiers must eventually do, but the fight is in the blood.

11. If you really care, you can't stop caring.
But I didn't say to be insane. I'm good at tenacity and persistence. I don't think I can stop. I don't think I can look the other way.

Let me put it another way. The reason for our frustration is because of people turning away. Think about it. So much of life seems futile. My search for a home without car noise has turned into neurosis. But I'm not insane for knowing what I want.

The key is knowing what to do. And what to change to get it. And sometimes it's hardest just before we win.

12. I consumed no news whatsoever between Gore's concession and 9/11, then
consumed no news whatsoever from Kerry's concession until about a week after Israel invaded Lebanon.

I missed the whole Bush presidency pre-9/11 and had no idea there had been a battle over privatizing social security in 2005. The first time I saw Gore preside over his own defeat in the Senate was in Fahrenheit 911.

I am missing an knowledge of several years of missing blond women and talking head debates over god-knows-what.

And life was better during both of those lengthy breaks. Politics is an ugly addiction... a search for a sense of control over a world gone insane.

13. I know, it sucks
The neocons have crossed the aisle and greedy Cheney has opened the gates for them in his lust for power, they have played his card well, selling out this country, the constitution, our economy, our standing in the world, the blood of our children.

The neocons are in a pact with the devil and are pure evil, but enough of their rhetoric
They are among the most ignorant, who have no value for anyones lives but there own.
