Richardson "Unbeatable" in a General Election, Experts Say
Larry Sabato: "Republicans will tell you privately that if the Democrats nominate Bill Richardson the election is over."

http://www.voanews.com/english/2007-10-26-voa26.cfm

Before we annoit Hillary, let's consider a candidate that has the best chance of winning a general election. A candidate who takes clear positions and actually answers the questions directly. A candidate who can actually win many Independent votes, (and even some Repuke ones). Someone who can give us a huge advantage going in to states like New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada. Someone who can take a difficult state like Ohio and shut the Repukes down. The best qualified candidate in the race, hands down.

4. I stopped favoring him when he waffled on Gonzales, but
I actually like him, Biden and Dodd much better right now than the three "front runners", certainly more than Hilary who I think would be a disastrous nominee.

This assumes Gore does not run.

5. I like him a lot, too. But here's an odd quote from the post:
Edited on Mon Nov-05-07 12:35 AM by pnwmom
"Stuart Rothenberg tracks national politics as the founder of a prominent national political newsletter. He comments, 'His problem is there is no obvious opening right now in the Democratic contest. Eighty-five percent of the Democrats say they're content with the field.'"

Someone should tell this guy that Richardson is a part of the field.

6. Well, he is, but what that 'satisfaction' number means is that
most people are happy with either their candidate or the few they're choosing between--they're not looking for alternatives. The greater part of them like Hillary, and virtually all the rest like Obama or Edwards.

7. More craven fear of Republicans. This is so sad.

8. Richardson is the candidate who I think could actually do the best job as President
Unfortunately, style trumps experience and substance in modern politics. Moreover he has stepped outside the acceptable range of Beltway groupthink on Iraq with his call for rapid withdrawal of U.S. forces and is not receiving the sort of coverage from the establishment media that his experience in foreign policy would suppose.

I'd love to see people catch on but doubtful it's going to happen.

9. I agree that Richardson is unbeatable, but I disagree that he'd be a good president. What does HRC
offer that Richardson doesn't also offer (besides tons of campaign cash), and Richardson is ten times the general election candidate?

I see Richardson is ideologically comparable to Hillary, but more electable.

10. He's my choice for nominee
Not that he as a chance in hell of being it. Hopefully someone will pick him as their VP and he'll be a shoe-in for Pres in 8 years.
