Hillary's tone is condescending tonight
She keeps doing it. She starts slow and then raises her tone. It's a lecture, not a persuasive speech.

But that was 3 years ago. She sounds defensive tonight.

What happened to "her voice is so monotone, etc. ,etc. I believe she is doing very well and I love her softer tone. It doesn't smack of condescension to me.

28. She ended really well
She came out and did a phony voice. Her supporters are calling it "hushed". I didn't make it up. I just found it to be phony, and consequently annoying.

When she stopped it at the end, she was terrific. It's the Iowa JJ, I'm prepared to like every candidate at this particular event.

I flipped back in time to hear her turn up the heat at the end there though. That was pretty good. Until Obama showed her what turning up the heat actually looks like. :)

44. I have to say that I don't like the way obama talks--it sounds so phony
The cadence is in threes with abrupt ending to each of the words. Even when he is simply carrying on a conversation. It is like someone who is too young for the position attempting to sound grown up.

She spoke rather quietly till the end so maybe you should stick around and listen carefully. You actually might begin to like her if you knew what she said.

27. She is doing exactly the things one gives in a
speech. For all those that ask the question, "did she take a speech class?" Well maybe the ones asking the question never took Speech 101 or 102.

I would give her a mark of A+. Followed the criteria: Analysis-Content-Organization-Delivery- Plus HRC's proxemics were appropriate. Stance, movement and gestures added to focus on topics, gave information. HRC's tone, pace and enunciation were appropriate and conversational.

39. I liked her speech!
Condescending? I did not find it condescending in the very least. As someone who studied acting at Lee Strasberg, let me tell you that when you lower your voice people tend to pay close attention to what you're saying. She wanted to make a point about the immorality of allowing an 18 year old girl die due to lack of health insurance and I thought that her delivery was quite effective. She then shifted to a traditional "fire up the base" style and ended on a high note. All in all, a pretty good stump speech.

Obama's speech was also very good, but not his best one to date.

Edwards I skipped altogether as I can't stand him anymore.

It's like a car wreck... You know you shouldn't look but you do anyway...

Or you're at a sports bar and you see some three quarters out of it yahoo making fun of your team... You can wisely ignore it or start an altercation...

It reminds me of the criticism of Al Gore's speeches... The MSM said he spoke as if he was speaking to five year olds...

42. I thought she gave a great speech. She also did a funny play on
some history of hers. Remember in '92, when she said "I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and tea", which annoyed a lot of people? Well, last night she quoted Harry Truman, "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen". Then she said, "well, I like being in the kitchen". That was great, as it has a double meaning -- clever speech writer.

I may add, that I have been sending that message to Clinton supporters all over the tubes. Hillary is going to be attacked by fellow Democrats right now because this is the primary wars. And supporters should stop whining and start fighting back with facts and reasoned arguments; otherwise -- if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

I liked her lower voice, and it also sounded like she had a cold. She did well last night.

Rather than discuss the meat of the speech--like every other post on every other candidate, you complain about the voice, reducing her to how she looks and sounds rather than the substance of her speech.

What a bunch of sexist crap.
