"No surprise that they both have rhythm. ALL Black people do." :eyes: I'm talking about them as politicians. Most politicians I've seen do NOT have rhythm.

Edited on Mon Nov-12-07 12:48 PM by jenmito
It has nothing to do with the color of their skin. If I saw any of the other candidates dancing with rhythm, I would've pointed THAT out, too. It's not MY fault YOU obviously think all Black people have rhythm.

Not "they have rhythm". But that's OK, you're never wrong :hi:

And I was trying to point out what just looked like an unfortunate turn of phrase, but now that you called ME racist, adios. We won't be running into each other again.

You're the one who took what I said and turned it into a racist remark by replying, "OK, then I guess they sho nuff do." I didn't call you a racist. I said you seem to think all Black people have rhythm.

45. Of course they can. But classically "he has rhythm" was a negative comment.
Rather than "he is a good dancer". I only was trying to point that out to a poster who turned it around on me, that *I* think "all black people have rhythm".

Obama dancing is terrific, as was Clinton on the saxophone. It's nice to see a candidate do something human :)

Thanks for the clarification and yeah, it's nice to see them acting human. Who will ever forget how great it felt when the Clintons and Gores were dancing (or in Al's case, attempting to dance) on stage after they won to the sounds of Fleetwood Mac. It was one of those beautiful "human" moments you describe. :)

47. Wrong. "He has rhythm" is a compliment as not EVERYONE has rhythm.
How you see that as a negative comment is beyond me. What IS a negative comment is YOUR response of, "OK, then I guess they sho nuff do."

23. it's not one thing

While Obama may have called the guy a bigot (I didn't see that) I did see him on stage with the guy while he was talking about his "deliverance" from homosexuality. I know the Af-Am church has real problems with homosexuality, and some people are offended when people see a correlation b/t the civil rights movement and legal rights for gay couples.

I'm not Af-Am or gay, but I can appreciate how, in both cases, people are "the way god made them," and I have no problem with that.

He did make the statement about "Tom Hayden democrats" vs. "Scoop Jackson Democrats." As has been shown on this site, Hayden was taking knocks from the racist southern cops for being his kind of democrat. I find the "scoop jackson" comparison especially disgusting because those people are also known as neo-cons at this time. Perle, et al, are not democrats. There is no compromise with the neocons. none. They are war criminals. They have gutted the constitution. In my opinion, they should be arrested and tried for war crimes.

look at what they have done to this country.

I wasn't old enough to be a "tom hayden" democrat, but I do remember seeing pictures of young people (black americans) who were hosed down by Bull Conner. I wasn't old enough to be a "hippie," but I certainly can appreciate the social issues that those people brought about. on the other hand, Scoop Jackson was among those who were so far to the right on nat'l security issues that I wouldn't trust them with a car, much less nat'l defense. the right has been wrong on every defense issue since Vietnam. This is something that you can prove by looking at their advice vs results.

their attempts to interfere and play one nation or group against another have backfired again and again, or have caused them to align with torturing dictators like Pinochet. They have nothing to bring to the table, imo, because they don't understand the importance of diplomacy. Because they aren't really Americans in the sense of those who founded this republic. They are imperialists who do not give a shit about the human rights of others.

I'm not part of any group of anti-wto, etc... I'm a really basic, boring middle-class person who has become horrified by what this nation has become. I expect the democrats to exhibit some basic decency and to hold the current totalitarians responsible for their acts.

Also- a guy on Salon talked about his work as an "informal adviser" to Obama. The guy supported Bush in 2000 and expected good things from him. That statement alone tells me the guy is an idiot because there was NO QUESTION in my mind that Bush was a fiasco. Bush is the reason I started answering back when the right wing said something. (that and the blow job crap.)

So, Obama can't talk to me and a lot of others who are outraged by the right wing by talking about "centrism" when the center, by the current standards, would be just to the right of Saddam Hussein. I am furious at the direction the current leaders on any side of the aisle have taken this nation. I am ready to fight, yeah, me, mom of two, helped make plaster of paris handprints when my kids were younger.... and I am so pissed off right now that I am ready to go at it with right wingers, theocrats, "scoop jackson democrats" and their supporters.

The way I see it is this: I did not start this fight. The right took decades to knock down democratic principles in this country. But now they have reached an apex of corruption -- I really think they're evil because they are torturing people. So there is no compromise for me with those people. None. We need "truth and reconciliation" hearings, maybe to tell the truth about what has been done "in our name" for years. I guess that makes me a Frank Church democrat.

Wasn't the two-thirds compromise a horrid example of politics that seeks to keep violently opposing views "together?" I wonder how Obama views that moment of "bi-partisanship?"

As I said, he is very charismatic, but that's not enough. Why should I pay attention to what he claims is policy when he speaks in ways that are anti-thetical to what I think will fix this nation?
